I liked them in their previous Jazz-influenced Pop period more so than their current Techno/Dance sound, but my favorite tracks are:

I hope they eventually put out an actual album again...they've been MIA for the past few years...

the entire Idlewild album is amazing, but my favorite track is Apron Strings - although i prefer the version on the She's Having a Baby soundtrack.

Tracy's voice is SO distinctive.. she has this ability to sound "forlorn" & "hopeful" at the same time..

crabwalk - very nice "jazzy" instrumental, featuring nice wandering brass

goodbye Sunday - 1 of their better "up-tempo" songs..

apron strings - the song that 1st got me into them, when I 1st heard it in 1988 ;
a BEAUTIFUL song.
isn't the melody from this similar to that of a Beatle's song?? (I forget which 1..)

in other words, I like the "tension" & "conflict" that's often heard in their songs. I once read somewhere where Tracy said, in effect, that writing 'typical love songs' was boring for them..

eden & everything but the girl were their "jazziest" & most "bossa nova" influenced albums, smooth, yet quite "poppy"

with language of life, I thought they kind of "sold out".. I remember seeing VH-1 heavily promoting that album & the song driving. I like missing enough as a song, but that song was really played a lot here when it 1st came out..

still, they are a very talented group & their overall body of work is very solid
&.. it's cool how they chose their name after that of a.. thrift store !

'missing' is fucking great.
