Favorite songs from Musicals

I love this soundtrack.

::gets up from computer, jumps out the window, skips in the streets of Manhattan gleaming from ear to ear::

Everybody look around
'Cause there's a reason to rejoice you see
Everybody come out
And let's commence to singing joyfully
Everybody look up
And feel the hope that we've been waiting for

Everybody's glad
Because our silent fear and dread is gone
Freedom, you see, has got our hearts singing so joyfully
Just look about
You owe it to yourself to check it out
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?

Everybody be glad
Because the sun is shining just for us
Everybody wake up
Into the morning into happiness

::waves hands in the air:::

Hello world
It's like a different way of living now
And thank you world
We always knew that we'd be free somehow
In harmony
And show the world that we've got liberty

It's such a change
For us to live so independently
Freedom, you see, has got our hearts singing so joyfully
Just look about
You owe it to yourself to check it out
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?

::jumps in the air and looks at the sky:::

Everybody be glad
Because the sun is shining just for us
Everybody wake up
Into the morning into happiness
Hello world
It's like a different way of living now
And thank you world
We always knew that we'd be free somehow
In harmony
And show the world that we've got liberty

It's such a change
For us to live so independently
Freedom, you see, has got our hearts singing so joyfully
Just look about
You owe it to yourself to check it out
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?

::orchestral part, dancers in tight pants come out::

::twirling around:::

YEAH! ALRIGHT!

::doing the jig:::

::spinning in a circle:::

Which version do you like? I have the Broadway album and it's much better with Stephanie Mills singing than Diana Ross. pissed I'm not going to get into my feelings on that issue.

The Wizard of Oz; Somewhere over the rainbow

The Wiz, You can't win.

Rent, I've never actually watched it but my sister would make me listen to the CD and a couple of tracks really grew on me, so Im going to watch it sooner or later...

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; Pure Imagination, and the Oompa Loompa bits, well the whole film really,

I don't know if they are strictly 'musicals' but I love the music from Disney movies. ..

Aladdin; A whole new world,

Beauty and the Beast

Lion King; Can you feel the love tonight,

The little mermaid, Kiss the girl and Part of your world.

I grew up on Grease and Annie. I Watched those movies over and over when I was little.

I went to a performing arts school and we did 2 main stage productions every year. I got there in the middle of 10th grade, and got into being on the tech crews for the shows. I was on running crew for Grease, and did lights for Gypsy and 42nd Street.

I have a special place in my heart for "One" from Chorus Line.

I love the songs from Cinderella (1997 TV Movie) with Brandy and Whitney Houston.

Impossible

The Sweetest Sounds

Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?

Ten Minutes Ago

Falling In Love With Love

The Prince Is Givng A Ball

In My Own Little Corner

A Lovely Night

There's Music In You

Stepsister's Lament

They should've made a soundtrack for this movie. I would've bought it in an instant.

Uh, yeah you should. I love Diana Ross, but her voice is nothing next to Stephanie Mills'. Her version of Home is a Broadway and R&B classic. Very good indeed!

Three Mo' Tenors

Thomas Young, Roderick Dixon, and Victor Trent Cook do not have the level of name recognition enjoyed by the other three tenors, José Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti, but in this concert, taped for a Great Performances telecast, they show spectacular depth and a variety of talents.
They begin with opera, sharing solos in "La donna e mobile," and other operatic material is included--notably "Nessun dorma," which is one of Pavarotti's signature tunes, and "Ah! mes amis" from La Fille du Regiment, with its formidable series of high Cs. But a livelier agenda is established with "Let the Good Times Roll," and the program expands to include pop, blues, Broadway, spirituals, and even a touch of patriotism in "America the Beautiful." Cook has the biggest show-stopper: Cab Calloway's "Minnie the Moocher."

--Joe McLellan

La Donna E Mobile
Let The Good Times Roll
Make Them Hear You
Ah! Mes Amis
Ellington Medley:
You Gotta Be A Rug Cutter
    It Don't Mean A Thing
I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart

The Jazz Cat / Minnie The Moocher
Twisted
Nessun Dorma
Today I Sing The Blues
Soul Medley:
    Love Train
    Oh Girl
    Betcha By Golly, Wow
    Midnight Train To Georgia

Have You Heard About The Baby? / Glory To The Newborn King
Were You There?
America The Beautiful
Gospel Medley:
    Let The Praise Begin
    Just Come
It's My Time To Be Blessed

An interesting "everyday person" commentary:
"In an age when black music and youth culture lean toward filthy mouth pimp-daddies with their hats on backwards, posturing, posing and grabbing their crotch, these gentlemen are a great example of what kids should consider aspiring to. Master P, Kurupt, Ice-T and Snoop Dog might have the fame and the dollars, but 3 MO' TENORS have something that these Rappers will NEVER have or can NEVER buy.....CLASS!"

This is a bit off-topic but the "Musicals" theme reminded me of the show and wanted to give some props to these guys.
