Old School Funk N' Soul

I am a white boy who grew up on Old School Funk N' Soul. At eleven or twelve I was funkin' to Pleasure, Junior, O'Bryan, One Way, Slave, Fatback, Xavier, Teddy Prendergrass and later, Colonel Abrams. Damn! I miss that Old School music. I wanna know what ya'll think about it.

Well...all the artist's you mentioned put out some great stuff. Obryan was big back in the 80's but unfortunately...whenever I breakout my Best of Obryan I get laughed at.
I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

I think Slave performed in NY recently (or, are about to). worship Love TeddyP too! Someone gave me a flyer earlier this year with Colonel Abrams on the bill, so he's still doing the club circuit. btw, did Xavier have any other hits besides "Work that Sucker to Death?"

Xavier's "Work That Sucker To Death" is the only hit I know of. But damn it was funky.

PraiseDaMan I know what you mean man! (except I'm not white, I'm Mexican) But, I really miss those days too, but you don't have to miss the music! It's all out there! Sounds like we might be around the same age. Junior and O'Bryan have always reminded me of "Skate Town" the roller joint in my hood. SteamForest I know what you mean as well, but I just love me some "Gigolo" and "I'm Freaky"!

Damn! Thats funny as hell. It reminds me of "Skate King". I have been collecting all the old school funk n' soul videos for the past year. I never have to go without now.

The people where I work think I am just some corn ball white boy. I try to tell'em that I grew up around all the brothas and mexicans back home but they don't wanna believe me. Then I ask them, "How many white boys do you know that grew up with Teddy Prendergrass, Fatback, Xavier, Junior, etc.?" Then they are cool with me because then they know. I just laugh my ass off.

I remember going to the skating rink back in the day on the soul/funk nights. There would be wall to wall blacks in there and I would be the only white person in there. Friends used to call me the white black boy, light skinned brother, high high yellow brother, the male Teena Marie, inside out oreo, and blue eyed soul brother (even though my eyes are brown). I took them as the highest form of complements.
