The Beatles were definitely the most influential, but my personal pick? The Isley Brothers.

How is it a cop out if you believe it to be true? I don't think they made "tonnes of shit." shrug

I guess it depends on your criteria, but, In terms of Impact and Influence, It's still the Beatles: their influence goes beyond Pop and rock: Countless Musicians in R&B, Jazz and Classical, World Music and even Hip Hop list the Beatles as influences...their impact is worldwide and spans culture, age and class boundaries...

The time!

Super group as well as being great as a unit! Brill on stage- all talented, they were different, all their albums were great and so were the side projests like Morrris day solo, Jesse solo, Jam and Lewis super producers, Monty moir even wrote Janets "Pleasure princible" and Jellybean stayed as a drummer 4 jam and Lewis projects (check exec producer on "Mint conditions debut)! Jerome was funny too!

Oh yeah, and Morris and the time made both "Purple rain" and "Grafitti bridge" watchable as morris stole every scene! Never will be a group like "The time" again

The Beatles were without a doubt the most influential. But that's not what this is about.

It's about who's best. I think there are many better than the Beatles.

The answer has to be the Beatles, of course. There may have been performers or bands that have matched or surpassed aspects of their legacy, but no one has ever equaled their collective abilities as song-writers, performers and recording artists. Certainly the Beatles songbook will be remembered for ages. I'm sure that when the music of the twentieth century is studied in the distant future, Lennon and McCartney will be considered equals of Cole Porter and Gershwin, while the bands we consider the Beatles peers today will have been long forgotten.

I think the question is then, "who is/was the second best band in the world"? My vote goes to Can - or maybe the Fall.
