"The Love Below" a year later...is it STILL a masterpiece?

Or are you now "M-BARE-ASSED" to play it?

For me, there are still a couple of songs I play...maybe a few. But it got really boring really fast for me. Thoughts and opinions...?

It's bcuz off all the hype and u probably wore it out when u 1st got it! It will happen 2 most albums. I did it with SOTT after about a week! I was killin it but i left it alone 4 about a moth an grdually got back with it! I still like 'The Love Below'. I never considered it a masterpiece bcuz hey that's subjective. I don't know what the critirea is 4 an album 2b considered a masterpiece. It's a quality effort 4sho!

I still think it's an amazing album, easily the best of that year: that, despite the fact that there are some really weak tracks on the Big Boi disc. On the other hand, the 3000 disc is flawless -- not a misstep on it! I took it out for the first time in months last week, and still I'm floored by it. I think it'll retain its brilliance for years to come.

Hi, El!

I actually bumped "Speakerboxx" for like 2 weeks before I got to TLB. No, I didn't overplay it cause I didn't even like half of it. I thought it had a few excellent cuts, some that were OK, and some that were garbage. But there were millions of critics (and some people on this site) that were really hyping it up (and some were using the word "masterpiece".) I've been an Outkast fan since day one and I'm already looking forward to their next CD.

Haven't listened to it in ages, but I still think it is solid. I never considered it a masterpiece by any means. Any album that contains a singer obviously struggling to hit some high notes, and such a sophomorically, obnoxious chorus like the one in "Roses" is no masterpiece to me.

It's actually been nine months since its release, but the two of them still stand up right. The over zelous play of " Hey Ya" and " I like the way you move " just makes it seem as though it's been a year. " Roses " was the only logical third single to put out since the two of them are on it, otherwise there are no better songs to release. Name a song that can come out for Big Boi that would be as hyped. Outside of " Prototype ", Dre3X's songs are too wierd for PoP40.

Originally Big Boi was to release Bow Tie, and Andre Prototype, both would have been club bangers!

There is not a better R&B song this year that can top Prototype.

Definitely a masterpiece.

Yeah, I got kinda pissed when I read that he wasn't going to release Prototype and that Roses would be the last single. Cuz it is definitely a classic soul ballad.

I never bought it because
I wanted all the hype to die down
so I could decide whether I still cared about Outkast
(I have ATLiens, Aquemini, and Stankonia).

I know I could have bought it back then
and just listened for myself. neutral

I think I've heard the entire album though
without even owning it! eek

I think it's great but overall, I still rank Stankonia as their ture unequivocal MASTERPIECE. Following it are Aquemini, ATliens and then The Love Below and then Speakerboxxx.

1. Stankonia
2. Aquemini
3. ATliens
4. The Love Below
5. Speakerboxxx.

I was on the subway last night and someone was playing "Prototype" on a portable boombox at a bench across from me. I had my eyes closed and the music sounded so good while we were travelling along the turbulent train tracks. That Outkast album is really a great record.

I thought that was the point of the song. He's being really juvenile about a bad break up.

If the point was in succeeding to make me annoyed by it, and make it their least successful single to date among their last two releases, I guess so. biggrin

It peaked at #9 on the Hot 100. Not a bad chart position at all. I agree that it wasn't the best choice in singles, but I still like it. Obviously, not everone agrees with me, and I'll have to live with that. biggrin
