Hendrix/The Black Experience

I just bought the new book on Hendrix titled "Midnight Lightning/The Black Experience" by Greg Tate. This book is a must 4 anyone who adores Hendrix, or kind of digs Hendrix, or is curious about Hendrix and black music and society. Greg Tate did an excellent job and is an excellent writer. If ya'll haven't picked this up, please get it and read it. This is a MUST read!

Yeah, I got that!! I thought it was pretty cool--I always like to read Tate's take on things (I also loved his book,"Flyboy in the Buttermilk") -- But my all time favorite book on Hendrix, especially with regard to black music and society's perceptions --is Charles Shaar Murray's Crosstown Traffic --(and He's white and jewish!-- go figure... )

I agree. Charles's book is the best. I also like "Scuse me while I kiss the sky." by David Henderson. That's the first book I got on Jimi. I was 15.

The best book on Jimi I think is "The Final Days of Jimi Hendrix" by Tony Brown. Also, "Electric Gypsy" by Harry Shapiro.

I like those, too. what's interesting about all of these books is that they all have a different slant on the Hendrix....well, the Hendrix experience, for lack of a better term...

Id have to say the best Hendrix book Ive read is "Electric Gypsy" which youve already mentioned. "Jimi Hendrix: The Ultimate Expirience" by Johnny Black is also very detailed.
Eddie Kramer's(Jimi's engineer) "Setting the Record Straight" is a good read as well.

The latest books Ive picked up are "Black Gold" by Steven Roby which details all available films and recordings....
...and "Jimi Hendrix:Musician" by Kieth Shadwick ,a huge coffee-table book with great photos and a fairly detailed history of Jimi's peak years.

Just yesterday I picked up a small paperback which is part of the "33 1/3" series ,which dicusses "Electric Ladyland" and Jimi's career in general in detail.
"...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."
