Madonna V The Church: Round 456 No Madonna Show in Portugal
Madonna has axed a concert in Portugal after a clash with a local evangelical church. The Queen of Pop was supposed to bring her ReInvention concert tour to Lisbon's Atlantic Pavilion on September 12. But following the concert announcement, the Lisbon-based Mana Christian Church said it had already booked the same venue for September 8-11 for a "Convention of Faith". The church claimed it had put in the reservation in February, and refused to change the booking. Jorge Tadeu, founder of the church, said last month he was "revolted" by those who "want to exchange Jesus for Madonna". "In our understanding God is moving the Christian church to defeat Goliath," he said. "We feel the pressure from Madonna is not restricted to the Mana church, but is part of a wider battle between the devil and Christ." Apparently, John Giddings, Madonna's legal representative in Europe has informed the Mana Church that the concert has been axed. http://www.star-ecentral....e=7/6/2004

well, you know what, good for them. what are they supposed to say? - "gee, as much as we'd love to have our convention of faith as scheduled, it IS madonna." i'm sure as much of a spiritual maven as madge alleges to be, she'd be the first person to understand - in which case, i don't see this as being a "madonna vs. the church" issue as much as simply as scheduling conflict matter. | |

well, i've said it before...madonna IS the devil!  look at the imagery in her latest tour...tarot cards focusing on 'the devil' card...sheopens with that blasphemous 'beast within mix'...just look at the lyrics to like a prayer..."oh god i think i'm falling...out of the sky..." wasn't the devil a fallen angel?  and let's not forget "when you call my name, its like a little prayer"...a prayer to whom, exactly? oh, and her infamous words, "i wanna rule the world." sounds like the devil to me!

If the venue is booked then it's booked. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Church suddenly created this "Convention of Faith" as soon as they found out Madonna was interested in performing in Lisbon then backdated the reservation date to February so it looked legit.
