R&B Classic of the Day: "Stop,Look,Listen (To Your Heart)" by The Stylistics (1971) This song is just heavenly, like other Stylistics hits from this period. It takes you back to a time when soul music (as it was called back then) was all about melody, amazing vocal harmonies and lush arrangements. There are numerous great Stylistics songs, but this one is my favorite. My only complaint is that this song is way too short. It's so gorgeous, you want it to continue for another few minutes...lol.In subsequent years, this song was covered by many other artists, such as Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye (who performed it as a duet),Patti Austin,Angela Bofill (both of these ladies released competing versions in 1982) and others.I seem to recall a late-80s or early 90s remake, which featured a long spoken intro, anybody know what I'm talking about? Anyway, nothing tops the original version...
"Stop,Look,Listen (To Your Heart)" by the Stylistics (written by Thom Bell-Linda Creed) You're alone all the time Does it ever puzzle you, have you asked why You seem to fall in love, out again Do you ever really love or just pretend Why fool yourself Don't be afraid to help yourself It's never too late, too late to (chorus) Stop,Look,Listen to your heart, hear what it's saying Stop,Look,Listen to your heart, hear what it's saying Love, love, love Though you try,you can't hide All the things you really feel, this time decide That you will open up,let it in There's no shame in sharing love you keep within So jump on in Head over heels, and fall right in It's never too late, too late to (chorus) Stop,Look,Listen to your heart, hear what it's saying Stop,Look,Listen to your heart, hear what it's saying Love, love, love (instrumental break) Stop,Look,Listen to your heart, hear what it's saying (Listen to your heart, can't you see it's not too late) repeat [This message was edited Tue Jul 6 5:03:50 2004 by DavidEye]

You know,I was thinking of the Marvin Gaye/Diana Ross duet album when I started this thread, which gave me the inspiration to start another thread about Diana's best songs, lol.

This song is the best. I love the way Thom Bell incorporated the oboe and sitar in a number of his productions.
