***"Born To Be Alive" by Patrick Hernandez actually came out in 1979,during the Disco days.Here's an interesting story about him,though....when that song became a smash hit,he went on tour in France.One of his backup singers was an unknown vocalist named Madonna Louise Ciccone!!! Yes,THAT Madonna:)

Yes...I know. I mentioned Patrick's song because it really started hitting it big on airwaves and started crossing over in early 1980 even though it was released in 1979.

Oh...I forgot one that got major airplay...major video play, yet was his only hit. Remember Noel, with "Silent Morning". I loved that jam, even though he dressed like the Dr. Pepper guy in his video! LOL

Or, how 'bout The Greg Kihn band with "Our Love's In Jeopardy"!!! Then Weird Al parodied it with "I Lost On Jeopardy"...2 much.

Great responses guys...I sho 'nuff miss the 80's. That new show on Fox SUX...it captures NONE of it!

***Jo Boxers "Just Got Lucky"(1983)---Does anyone remember this song from the spring of 1983? Not a huge hit,but it's cool and catchy.

***Scritti Politti "Perfect Way"(1985)---Funky synth-pop.Not really innovative,just alot of fun,though.

***ABC "Poison Arrow"(1982)---ABC was a cool MTV band with a few hook-filled hits like this one...."Shoot that Poison Arrow through my heart....shoot that Poison Arrow"

***Tommy Tutone "867-5309/Jenny" (1982)---"Jenny,Jenny,who can I turn to?...You give me something I can hold onto".With its' memorable guitar riff and catchy chorus,this was a great song!!!

***Quarterflash "Harden My Heart"(1980)---Damn,I haven't played this song in years!!! Anyone remember this one??

***Naked Eyes "Promises,Promises" (1983)---Wow,another great song from that "awesome" decade...lol...

* Paul Davis-Cool Night

* Golden Earrings-Twilight Zone

* Big Country-In A Big Country...I like at the beginning of the song when the lead singer says "HOT!!!!!"

* A Flock Of Seagulls-Wishing(If I Had A Photograph)...The lead singer Mike Score had the weirdest hairstyle. Did you know that he had a career as a hairdresser before entering the world of music.

Time to get my maxell cassette tapes that have all of my 80's 45 vinyls on them!!!!(LOL)!!!!

***Laura Branigan "Self Control"(1984)

***Central Line "Walking Into Sunshine"(1981)---Bro915,do you have any more info about this song? It was an R&B hit in 1981.Heavily-synthesized funk track,with a chorus that goes...."Cause there'll be Sunshine,yes,I'll be Walking Into Sunshine....Sunshine...give me the sun...Sunshine....soon all my rainy days will all be gone...."I have this song on one of my CDs,but I don't know too much about this band.Any details?

***Club Nouveau "Why You Treat Me So Bad?"(1986)

***Nu Shooz "I Can't Wait"(1986)

The guy who sang "We don't have to take our clothes off to have a good time...and drink some cherry wine!" I loved that song! He had cool hair too I think. Reading thorugh some of the eighties stuff it takes me back to my youth! I was a bit of a goth back then for about 6 months and was into Sisters of Mercy as well as Prince. I also loved Frankie goes to Hollywood - how many of you had "Frankie says relax" t-shirts!

***Thomas Dolby "She Blinded Me With Science" (1983)---I guess people consider this a "novelty song",but there is NO denying its' appeal.This track is funky as hell,and recieved ALOT of airplay on R&B stations,too.

That song had SUCH a funky beat underlying it!!...If you ever heard the long version from the album, it was amazing...

***The Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like"(1982)---Yeah,it's a cheesy song,but a GOOD cheesy song (does that make any sense??...lol...)

Arrrgh!!...I hated this song!!...lol...the lead singer's voice was sooooo bland and boring, as was her personality on the video...tall and skinny, looking like she had just come out of a coma....

***Frankie Smith "Double Dutch Bus"(1981)---In the summer of '81,we used to jam to this crazy song.If you've never heard it,you will be shocked at how weird it is! This is one of those songs where "you had to be there" to fully understand it's impact.

Ok, then tell me what the HELL they're sayin' in this blasted song...what the fuck is "Mikizzu" anyway??...lol..."Ze zound ze zee...ze zu zu zeee..."...WTF??...Take that kid off his Retlin...

And here's another, just for the hell of it:

* "Electric Avenue"...Eddie Grant

"It's My Life" is an excellent song...one of the better pop songs of the 80's, easily...

Here's another one-hit wonder, just for the hell of it:

* "Walking On Sunshine"....Katrina and the Waves

I remember driving around with this song jammin' in my piece of shit car with the awesome stereo system in it. On the long version of it, There's a killer programmed drum solo (at the end). Man, it used ever speaker I had in the car as it bounced all over my different speakers... it was so cool...that's a memory that stands out with Thomas Dolby.

***Oran "Juice" Jones "The Rain" (1986)---Along with Prince's "Kiss",this was arguably the best R&B song of 1986.Y'all remember this one...."I saw you walking in the Rain,you were holding hands and now,it'll never be the same".But,the ending was a classic.His cheating girlfriend comes home,and he humiliates her by cancelling all her credit cards,taking her mink coat,and giving her a lecture she won't soon forget...lol...

Oh man...this one was a trip, and soon a response was made...Remember the statement he made at the end, "This is MY world, ur just a squirrel tryin' 2 get a nut!" 2 funny!

***The Musical Youth "Pass The Dutchie"(1983)---Y'all know you were singing this song back in the day...lol...

I loved this one 2. Great hook, good voices 4 those young'ns.

***Dexy's Midnight Runners "Come On Eileen" (1983)---This song is incredible! The sound is so unique,I can't even describe it...lol...too charming for words:)

This was a good one, but so overplayed it quickly wore out on me. I still check it out once in awhile.

***Frankie Smith "Double Dutch Bus"(1981)---In the summer of '81,we used to jam to this crazy song.If you've never heard it,you will be shocked at how weird it is! This is one of those songs where "you had to be there" to fully understand it's impact.

Loved it!!!

***Rebbie Jackson "Centipede" (1984)---The music biz is so unfair.Rebbie can sing WAY better than her famous sister Janet,yet her career never really took off."Centipede" was written and produced by her brother Michael,and it is a gem.The chorus alone is simply stunning!!

She released another album in 1998 titled, "Yours Faithfully" with another Michael Jackson penned and produced song called, "Fly Away", Mike sings the backing vocals on it also. Centipede is on that album again...for some strange reason. Maybe just 4 the remastering. It was released on the MJJ label.

Actually,Jermaine Jackson did some funky jams in the 80s.Remember the Stevie Wonder-written "Let's Get Serious"(1980),the duet with brother Michael "Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin"(1984),and the collaboration with Devo "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy"(1982)?

The Waitresses' "I Know What Boys Like" is a charming song.I love the part where she teases the guy,telling him "This time I mean it,you can trust me",then as he gets all excited,she says "Sucker!"...lol...

I have NO idea what they're really saying on "Double Dutch Bus",but at the time,the kids in my neightborhood said it was "pig Latin" (a language I don't speak....lol...).

***Billy Squier "My Kinda Lover"(1982)

***Vanity 6 "Nasty Girl"(1982)---Hey,can we put Prince protege's on this list?...lol...seriously,"Nasty Girl" is a great song.It has a killer groove,but it's the lyrics that got most of the attention.I remember buying the album,and hearing Vanity bluntly state "I need 7 inches or more".Back then,it was shocking for a woman to say something like that on a record (especially to those who didn't buy Millie Jackson albums...lol...).

***Will To Power "Baby,I Love Your Way/Freebird"(1988)

***Dino "I Like It"(1989)---I was a Dino fan! His first album '24/7' is a catchy dance/pop/R&B collection that also contained the sexy ballads "Never 2 Much Of U" and the title track.I thought he was gonna go far.

***Kiara "This Time"(with Shanice)(1988)---"I don't think you realize what went on inside....now I'm never gonna give up til I'm back by your side..."

***The Family "The Screams of Passion"(1985)---"There's a gentle autumn breeze that blows whenever we be lying,lying in my bed...the moon appears and disappears,you look at me,my clothes I quickly,I quickly shed" (Is that a killer opening line,or what??)

***Ozone "Gigolette"(1981)---Teena Marie's backing band branched out on their own,and Teena produced this jam for them...."Gigolette from side to side,can 'ya dig it?"

Good Morning Everyone.....Can I get a show of hands of all the people who thought that was a new Stevie Wonder song back in 1984 when they first heard The Pointer Sisters's top 10 song "Automatic". Man, you couldn't tell me that wasn't Stevie Wonder. Even the lyrics sounded like something he would have penned. I heard it this weekend on our 80's Musical Weekend radio station (98.5 FM) and it bought back great memories. Great song!!!!!Long live the music of the 80's!!!!!
