Name the WORST Concert That You Ever Attended, and Why

The worst concert that I ever attended, for me, was back in the early 90's. A guy I was dating at the time took me to see the group Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, at a venue that has since been torn down. The reason why I didn't like the music was that every song sounded the same. I was happy for the concert to end, but I felt kind of bad for the guy who took me. I think he took me because I told him that I enjoyed going to concerts, and he thought an ELR concert would be a good date. Unfortunately, that was not the case. What about you?
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

i went to see the creatures in 1998 (i think). i love siouxsie and the banshees and i was really into the creatures cd that was out at the time but this show was awful! the venue was only 1/3 full which didn't help things. siouxsie and budgie were terrible and the music sounded nothing like the cd.

I went to see Kenna and Fischerspooner with Anx one night. Kenna was wonderful but Fischerspooner was the most God-awful trainwreck of an act that I have ever seen.

In a small club, UV Prom at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC. The band was horrible, the singer was out of tune, and the band and staff outnumbered the crowd.

In a theatre, Black Crowes. They band appeared drunk, the songs were poorly played, and the lead singer kept talking about how he didn't want to be there. Then, don't do the show!

tofka- I had a friend say that about fischerspooner which saved me from goin to one of their shows....

sassy- the creatures show I saw was at 1st Ave, on a Monday. These shows are notoriously late. The club was crowded early in the night. But, by the time they started (after midnight) people had already started leaving. It was so painfully, I only gave them an hour and I left.

as for MY worst show:
The Happy Mondays at 1st Avenue (Pills Thrills n Bellyaches tour)..it was the early 90s, height of baggy, this was (i think) the 2nd 'Madchester" show I was able to attend. I was SOOOO excited....enter the Mondays. So drunk thay can barely stand. Shaun Ryder only sang about 1/3 of the lyrics in the few songs they did. They were the headlining act and only played for about 40 minutes before staggering off the stage. It was AWFUL, almost heartbreaking. (hey- I was in high school, heartbreaking was easy)

Of course, at the time I knew nothing of their reputation. When I saw them a few years back at Glastonbury, I was prepared and ready to enjoy the f-ed mess of a show they put on.

DAMN, you beat me to it!!!!

Kenna was indeed fantastic - he needs to headline his own club tour (and put out a new album!) - but Fischerspooner was stinkeroonie. Unless your idea of fun is seeing a drunk chubby man in spandex lip synch to techno music and throw shade at the audience all night. yawn

I saw MeShell Ndegeocello at the Majestic Theatre in Detroit in 2002. She had an opening act named Chocolate Thunder ( or something like that). He was a dude and with the mostly lesbian audience, was not well recieved. He thusted his hips and blew kisses at them while he performed and the women booed him. When he threw samples of his cd into the crowd, they threw them right back at him. They booed through his entire set. I forgot to mention that we stood in line for over 90 minutes waiting for the venue to open its doors. We were still waiting to get into the building after the time that concert was supposed to start.I had worked that day and I was already tired. When the doors opened, it must have taken another 40 minutes for MeShell's opening act to start his set and by the time MeShell graced the stage, we had been there for well over 3 hours. I was wearing an expensive pair of Prada loafers and people seemed to not be able to stop stepping on my shoes (the concert was standing room only).
I love MeShell's music but when she finally got started, it was as though she wasnt motivated to perform the show. She was so boring and only played songs that I had never head before (songs from the COOKIE cd, that hadnt been released by this time) and people yelled out the titles of songs that they wanted to hear her play. She had the nerve to take an intermission, which meant that we had to stand there for another 20 minutes while she drank tea and lounged backstage. When she emerged again, I was pissed. She started playing another unrecogonizable song and then I decided to stop at a cafe, get a take out and go home and go to bed. It was a horrible experience. We left in the middle of her show.

Same Here! I bought the tickets because of all the hype surrounding the tour. I just thought it was a poor show all round. The sound was terrible and the stage show was pathetic. His so called "illusions" were so obvious. And to top it all off, support from KIM WILDE!!! Aaaargh!

I saw Pavement in 1993. Generally, one makes allowances for indie-rock bands as they're often inclined to not have particularly hot chops, but this was the sloppiest, most ramschackle performance I've ever witnessed. The drummer could not maintain a constant beat, and more than a few songs simply fell apart. The band didn't even have the excuse of being drunk - they simply were not competent musicians. I still love their records, though...

A special mention must go to the most obnoxious, revolting performance I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing: a band called the Philosopher Kings played a free out-door concert some years back in my town. Musically, they were forgettable but proficient R&B-ish rock - what made the show truly appalling was the lead singers unctuous lover-man act. He was trying to be Marvin Gaye/Al Green, and consequently was constantly bombarding the audience with this horrid "I'm going to sex you up, baby, I need your body so bad" patter. I'm not a violent person, but if I'd had access to a rifle with a decent telescopic sight that night, that man would be dead.

The Spice Girls without question. Took my eleven year old nephew and his girlfriend a couple of years ago for her birthday. After seeing them "perform" I understood the whole concept behind the big buisness genre. They were absolutly horrible. shake

The Isley Brothers, February 2004

They did all their slow songs but they only did one or two of their hard funk songs. Plus they had to do that stupid recent Biggie shit they have out.

Obviously you're not indie rock enough to understand that sounding good is a symptom of the poseur-breadhead corporate machine cancer. Or something. I guess. shrug sigh zzz

Micheal Jackson, I think it was the BAD tour...

My sis got me a FREE ticket...not bad seats either, floor row 15 or so...But, having
watched a TRUE MUSICIAN my whole adult life, Micheal Jackson's show wasn't up
to snuff. It takes more than dancing, dancers, and fireworks to make a good concert.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

You are right - I've clearly been duped by the oppressive, patriarchal and hyper-capitalist notion that when one pays for a gig you should expect to be "entertained".

I'm so unenlightened!!! I guess i've got a lot of growing up to do...

It's like Ben Lee told me once: "Man, if you're going to keep rocking the mesh trucker cap, at least have the balls to wear it Jason Mraz style."

I think there's a lot of truth to that statement, on many levels.

I'm going to go home and have a good cry now.

Without a doubt it was Missy Elliott, about a month ago.

No talent on stage. None.

A lot of yelling. No live instruments. 70% talking to the crowd, promoting her adidas clothing and the like and 30% wiggling her shit and yelling over a backing track.

All for the ripoff price of $90.

Utter, utter shit....so bad I started a thread about it a while ago.
