I beleive it was called "If I had a Harem (Blues in C)"...but Im sure that I may well be very wrong.....and it certainly sounds like a Prince track

It was recorded in the studio (long?) before it made an appearance on the Lovesexy tour - I think it dates from '86 - but Im sure Boris, Langebleu, or Neversin can fill the details in.

All I know is it's radically different from the slowed down live bluesy jam (which had elements of 'Take The A-Train' incorporated if I remember correctly), in fact so different as to be somewhat surprising when u first hear it.

Personally, I didnt take 2 it, and prefer the tour version.

It's from his forthcoming album, Vaginas of Arabia.

Rumor is that it accompanies a forthcoming movie by the same title in which a bunch of vaginas risk their lives trying to cross the desert in Arabia in search of water before they dry up.

I think it was originally recorded shortly before he set off on the 1988 tour.

The live version horn accompaniment's are given in Uptown's 'Turn It Up 2.0' as Ellington's 'Things Ain't What They Used To Be' and Charlie Parker's 'Billie's Bounce' ('Take The A Train' was previously referenced at the the end of 'It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night').

If you can get your hands on the boot "The Work, Vol. 2" A couple of versions of If I had a Harem is on there. I actually like the song. It is sort of a dirty Harry Cronick/crooner type thing.
"If I had a harem, like all the people say. If I had a harem like all the people say. A different girl for each and everyday." or something like that.

There are two versions on "The Work Volume 2" … one of them is said to be a fake recording!

Here are the lyrics 4 u:

If I had a harem
I'd harem in the morning
I'd harem in the evening
All over this land
I'd harem out danger
I'd harem out a warning
I'd harem out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

If I had a bell
I'd ring it in the morning
I'd ring it in the evening
All over this land
I'd ring out danger
I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

If I had a song
I'd sing it in the morning
I'd sing it in the evening
All over this land
I'd sing out danger
I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

Well I've got a harem
And I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing
All over this land
It's the hammer of justice
It's the bell of freedom
It's the song about love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land
"She made me glad to be a man"
