Lyrics to United States Of Division

Any corrections welcome , I think its 99% correct though now , I've just altered the lyrics that
were wrong after checking July's post further down razz

*cheating git edit*

The United States Of Division

2004,still at war , and everybody hates americans
Let go
Flying in an aeroplane with pen in hand
Over miles and miles of deep blue
Wondering if it was all part of a masterplan forget the 1 and become 2
How could your brother hear the same music (music music music)
Yet somehow dance to a different tune
I guess once you go divide this precious land
This precious land will divide you
Sing

Chorus:
Do do do do do do do
Dodo do do do do do
Do do do do do do
Everybody stop fighting
Do do do do do do do
Dodo do do do do do
Do do do do do do
Everybody make love

Driving a brand new cadillac through my neighbourhood
Everything still looked the same
Everything except the fact i wish i could
Take away all the hurt and pain
We let Superfly straighten up our curly hair
He took the afro out the game
Its kinda cool but the guns and drugs r too much to bear
10 years later Scarface came
Sing the hook

*Chorus*

The united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is one
People can slam their door disagree and fight it
But how you gonna love the father then not love the son
United states of division

Walking down the street no flag in hand
No stars and stripes no claim to land
No crescent moon just a holy man holy man
How far from heaven must we go before the winds of change will blow and show
This world how its supposd to be
The land of peace and harmony
C'mon everybody stop fighting everybody make love
Everybody stop fighting , united states of division

People can slam their door, disagree and fight it
But how you gonna love the father then not love the son
United states of division black
Division white
Division straight
Division gay
Division christian
Division muslim
Aaah

Why must I sing God bless America and not the rest of the world
Say can you see
I love my country but I love God more
If you man woman boy and girl , whoooah
Can you sing with me

*Chorus*
(come on everybody)
(put your gun down)
(hey everybody gather round gather round)
(talk to me)
(what is this rush to declare war )
(what we fighting for)
(hey oh come here baby)
(talking to united states united states united states of division)
(everybody make music)
(everybody make love)

The lyrics are OK. I think the beginning starts off good...and then he gets to the do do's and can't think of lyrics.

I really like the song. It doesn't have to have a super strong message to get it's point accross. As I sat listening, I thought of my brother who lives in another state, who probably has very different thoughts about what is going on. And it's mosly due to being uneducated and spoonfed news from Fox.

America does seem divided right now, and I think that's what he's trying to say.

Oh and thanks for the lyrics!

I guess the lyrics work just fine with this song and the "do do do's" are fine with me.

This is a type of "69 people slogans" song, hence the "corny" but รด so true stances!

unremarkable

"Do do do do do do do
Dodo do do do do do
Do do do do do do
Everybody stop fighting
Do do do do do do do
Dodo do do do do do
Do do do do do do
Everybody make love"

Come *on*, Prince!

And, no, he's not saying America's divided today.

As Morrissey said, America Is Not The World.

Seems it still needs pointing out.

I still haven't heard it except for the trailer on the NPGMC home page, but I like the lyrics. It's hard to argue with these sentiments: war is bad, mindless unquestioning patriotism is bad. People will say he's preaching to the choir without saying anything groundbreaking. But what other artists have the courage of their convictions to come out against the war? Not that many.

Bonus points for acknowledging that division based on religion and sexual orientation is bad. After some things that have come out of Prince's camp in recent years, I know I am not the only fan from the LGBT community who is glad to hear that acknowledgement and grateful for some reassurance that Prince is not a homophobic bigot.
You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

true...it's more like ol' boy has a grasp on how to speak out on the ills of the world and all that, but he puts 'em sorta in his own weird little twist. sorta like what i call "writing from within one's head": it might make sense to you as you write, but other folks who look at it may or may not understand whatever message or idea you're trying to convey.

It's also not that easy to write lyrics about a subject and put them into a song that works. You can tell by it's structure that he's trying to pull the lyrics together. And how to say something that hasn't been said that is lyrically good yet gets the point across.

Thing is for me this song really falls on deaf ears. You have to buy it to hear it. And most likely it will be just the big fans that will download it. It's not like it's out there and it should be.

I felt the same way when I heard "Chocolate Invasion" or "2045:Radical Man"
Except he seemed to have put more thought into those two songs.

The music to the song at hand, however, reminds me of "Rebirth Of The Flesh"
It's got that hook in the bass that needs to be heard!

The bible is parabellistic and who really knows how 2 fully translate the meaning of the verses. P reads the bible and often writes as well as speak in parables. That's how he writes. The One Song is as deep as anything Dylan has ever written! Every lyric and verse don't have 2 make sense upon 1st glance. It takes studying sometimes. Checkout 'Walk,Don't Walk' from D&P. That's another deep song. It's not simple like See Spot Run! And with that said sometimes simplicity is the best way!

yes that's true. i think his non-voting stance really isn't a good one. i do believe though he really doesn't think that voting counts or matters much (which is arguable as the last one was most likely bought...oh and a big IMO). He certainly doesn't believe in the type of organized government we have now. He's not very trusting that we got people in there that will do good...make right. I am a little less skeptic (though he has helped making me one) ...but even I doubt we have good people in government. But I would never say Not Vote.

U did'nt,i did! Sausage man said that Bob Dylan was holdin down MN on the lyrical front and u said that P was no Gil Scott- Heron which i took from both of u as disses. I was just pointing out in my opinionated way that P writes very diverse lyrics from simplistic 2 very deep thought provoking lyrics. He's as talented as both of those artist in my eyes but in his own way. Period!

Evidently not when everytime i read reviews concerning a so called political song he does there r comparisons 2 Dylan,Morrisey,or in your case GS-Heron stating the opinion that they r lyrically superior 2 P. That's just the vibe i'm getting with some ORG'ers. And i disagree 100% with that point of view. We're cool that's just my feelings on it!
