What was that microphone called that was shaped as a gun?

I was looking at some photos of Prince singing with a oddly-shaped gun that was a microphone. He used it on his "My Name Is prince" and "Sexy MF" video. I've always wanted to know what it did and what the concept of it was. If you have any pictures of the microphone, please post them. Thank You.

It was often called 'the gun microphone'.

I've always wanted to know what it did ...

It was a microphone

... and what the concept of it was.

... but it was conceived to look like a gun.

I just call it "the gun mic". And I sang into it in Omaha so I can verify that it does indeed function as a microphone! razz

if you notice, P had an affinity for detaching the snap-in mic clamp from the stand.

It gave him added maneuverability and allowed him to grip the mic, thus preventing mic droppage. (Witness this throughout PR, esp. the "Baby I'm a Star" selection.) Eventually it evolved into the mic gun that you're referring to.
