Heaven

Does anyone know what the song "Heaven" was intended for? It's a pretty good song. Nice falsetto and strangely, a nice harp solo a la Dorothy Ashby...

What's your opinion?

Turn It Up says:

"This one of many first-rate pop/rock songs that Prince recorded in 1985 and the early part of 1986, which were never placed on any configuration of Parade or any of his 1986 projects, Dream Factory, Crystal Ball, and Camille. The song was recorded at Sunset Sound on May 16th 1985, on the same day as the similarly unreleased "Stella & Charles" and "Come Elektra Tuesday".
Accompanied by a simple drum machine beat, Prince plays a "carnivalesque" theme on the organ. He alternates this with a second motif, which is played on a synth sounding very much like a delicate harp. There is also a high-pitched organ sound. The lyric reflects Prince's belief that heaven can be a place on Earth. He is certain that "we will find Heaven all in time".

Where'd you find this information? It's very nice. I didn't know of a title, Stella and Charles either. Interesting.

Heaven was a song recorded for a scrapped album called Prima Vagina.

Basically, the theme of the entire album was that all good vaginas go to Heaven, but all bad Vaginas will be reborn as an anus.

He scrapped the album in pursuit of more artistic endeavers like Diamonds and Pearls, another thinly vieled homage to the female genitelia.

I didn't notice a falsetto on the song except for the scream, unless there are two versions out there.

This is my FAVORITE unreleased song. I always thought it was an outtake from "1999". I didn't know it was recorded in 1985. If that's the case, it was probably intended to be released after "Purple Rain" instead of "Around The World In A Day". I was disappointed as hell when "Around The World In A Day" was released. If material like "Heaven" was originally intended then I am REALLY disappointed. That would have been an album to remember.

It wasn't intended for any project according to the text above.

You know what? I always felt that "Heaven" would have been a perfect closing song for the "Under The Cherry Moon" film.It could have taken the place of "Mountains"....being played during the end credits.Prince's character had been killed,so a song about "Heaven" would have been appropriate.Anybody agree?

Plus,it would have been cool to have this song on the 'Parade' album lol

I've always found this track meandering, boring and aimless.

Must just be me though. boxed
