Are remasters really going to happen?

According to NY Times (on another thread) - http://www.prince.org/msg/7/101699 ...

He is now negotiating with Warner Brothers over the release of remastered versions of his old albums, including a 20th-anniversary edition of "Purple Rain."

For this to happen WB are going to have to cut Prince a good deal. They can both obviously see $$$ because of all us suckers who will definitely go out and snap up every pre Batman release as long as it contains:

- Better sound quality
- B-Sides
- Extended versions
- Outtakes (more unlikely)

Other artists, such as David Bowie and Elton John have negotiated deals for their albums to be remastered where they receive an increased royalty (compared to the deal they had when the albums were originally released). Maybe that would be enough for Prince as I reckon it is unlikely Warner Bros will let him have the masters back?

Thoughts?

After Prince badmouthing WB the way he's been doing in concert lately, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Prince was offered a higher royalty for the very best of and he turned it down. Don't know though. They absolutly should come out and have remasters made. I really thought this was the way he was headed with the new tour...the re-release of the movies etc etc. I was actually hoping that he would buy the masters back. Though, I don't know what kind of deal that would be.

Then again he is bad mouthing them again...so who knows. He has been full of surprises this year...but I wish he'd get over the bad mouthing of the Recording Industry and Labels and MTV. We all get it already. He's preaching to the choir and it's not gonna change a dang thing. He should know this by now....that no one is gonna help you but yourself.

HOLD ON!

If he makes enough money to buy those masters back, we'll never get the "originals" intact!!!

Yeah.

The guy just brought something up that never occured to me:

If Prince is planning on using his new cash flow to buy everything back (ala Bowie), then we will probably never see a gem like "G-Spot" again.

Or ever, to be "PC."

Prince badmouthing Warners, MTV, etc is a negotiating tactic. "I don't need you" he's trying to say. Will it work? We'll know by Christmas!

yes pook. I never got my copy of Crystal Ball from 800-newfunk. They sent me a T shirt and some other crap instead. I eventually bought it from Best Buy. That is why I have never subscribed to NPGMC... that and it sounds like it doesn't work on Mac.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/
