EVERYTIME an article mentions the commercial hits of CK and Sinead, his name is automatically in the article de facto. and when exactly was the last time anybody saw an uh-huh commercial anyway? Prince was huge at the time. Those two songs did little to help him out. It would be like Alicia Keys writing a song for an obscure artist, and this somehow giving her a boost to her career--not really. She would be lucky to make a good deal of money off of that. Prince made 6 million simply submitting a demo and allowing it to be used. Sinead and Chaka's successes had little or no impact on him or his career, any more than Alicia Key's rendition of "How come U dont' call..." helped to revive his career last year. Prince did it on his own. Residual artists that give nods to him have been abundant during his "Dark years" away from the limelight, but it was he who ultimately had to boost his career. Props are just props, and the monetary reward for them isn't nearly what Prince is able to garner on his own, whether he gets credit for them in your next Q-magazine or not. The uh-huh song is now the state anthem in Georgia, Romania and Siapan. Research this, and you will see. You will see. i thought Georgia on My Mind was the state anthem...but i digress... i'm not one to get into back and forth arguments over such matters, so i'll just say my peace and be done with it. Prince got a grammy and a #1 single out of two old album tracks. and he got $6 mil for a demo...so he got paid all the way around. end of discussion. you look better on your facebook page than you do in person | |
