did anyone expect more...

i posted a question yesterday(6/26/04) asking about prince's lawyer, londel mcmillianthe question was direct: should londel stay or should he go? the reason behind the post is that i wonder how many people thought that once prince left warner bros. that there was going 2 B a GREAT WAVE of music coming out of prince's vault. am i alone on this? if others do feel this way, R U disappointed? prince is having GREAT success with MUSiCOLOGY and the tour. he seems 2 B very happy N at peace. but since the beginning of this year with THE GRAMMYS and being inducted in THE ROCK 'N ROLL HALL OF FAME, the NEW CD and THE TOUR, it has been some ride 4 all of us. later this summer it will continue with the DVD releases of PURPLE RAiN, UNDER THE CHERRY MOON and GRAFiTTi BRiDGE. this is all GREAT, but give it some time and the newness; the excitement of playing with all those new christmas toys wears off. what is next? more music, more videos? or just more waiting? WOULD PRiNCE B RELEASiNG MORE if londel mcmillianwas not around? do prince fans ever have enough?

I totally agree about being disappointed that more vault material has yet to be released. If you take into consideration all of Prince's WB releases (including side projects) I don't think his out put has increased since 1996 very much, if at all. I thought WB was stifling his creativity? If so where are all of the songs WB wouldn't let him release? I believe Prince is holding on to some vault songs to include them in reissues of his WB product. Which in theory is great. But I don't think WB is going to give Prince his masters so Prince is going to have to work with WB to reissue his 1978-1996 albums. I don't see that happening anytime soon. Meanwhile we fans are left wanting more. I wish Prince and WB would just reissue the albums on Rhino (similar to the Elvis Costello reissues they did) and split the profits 50-50. They stand to make a big pile of money if only they could agree. Regarding Londell I don't know if he has anything to do with Prince not releasing more music. He would likely get a cut so it is in his financial interest for Prince to release the vault material.

whether or not p has a lawyer really has nothin to do with how much or how little material p decides to put out.

let's face it...you've probably heard most of what's in the vault in one form or another. I think people will probably disappointed because there is no new groundbreaking hidden gems in there anywhere. if most of the songs were that good, they would have been released in one form another (b-sides, scrapped albums having select songs put on subsequent albums)...the mystery of not hearing everything is probably better than hearing something and being disappointed
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

What does his lawyer have to do with it? When and if Prince decides to release stuff from the vault is truly up to him and no one else.

I'm sure if Prince felt that what's in the vault was worth releasing, he would have released them!

Stop beating that dead horse already, DAMN!!

most of prince's released music is old stuff.....

razz

Xample, a case of U. sure it was orginally written/recorded by joni mitchell but it was also re-recorded by prince back in the early 80's and performed by prince and the reveloution. then close 2 twenty years later he finally releases his version. trust me there is so much stuff in there. and when i say so much i mean it is much more than any other well known, well respected artists alive or dead.

he remembers....member? U member! member?

I don't care about how much vault material that he releases bcuz i don't know what the circumstances surrounding the songs ie: Lyrical content, guest artists,or just plain old bored with'em. As long as P is still givimg me sumthin new each year i could care less whether it's vault meterial or so called new material...just as long as it's funky or fresh!

Although I was also expecting prince's emacipation to lead to amazing things being released with much more frequency and volume than with WB, I have to say I was dissapointed.

Yes, we're not getting much music in the form of studio releases. But the thing that annoys me the most is that none of it really impresses me like his older material.

I mean, I remember the thrill I'd get in hearing the new Prince single and readin "from the forthcoming album...." And it happend often and with a good deal of buzz. And although the album always left me a little perplexed, it always grew on me.

The new stuff doesn't really grow on me much. Plus, he's older and I'm older. The freshness isn't there. I wonder if younger fans still get that thrill.
