What do y'all think of Girl 6? This album is rarely discussed, perhaps with good reason, but I am curious about what y'all think of it. When I first got it I loved it. I didn't have Sign 'O' The Times, the B-Sides, Exodus, the Family or Vanity 6. That means that Girl 6 was the first time I heard "Count The Days", "The Screams Of Passion", "Nasty Girl", "The Cross", "Adore" (the full version) and "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore". Plus there was "She Spoke 2 Me", "Don't Talk 2 Strangers" and "Girl 6". Of course by now there are only two exclusive songs on it but when I first got it it was awesome and as a compilation I think it's pretty cool. Any opinions?

Bought it for the exclusive tracks but haven't played it in years. It doesn't hang well as a compilation for a start and Don't Talk To Strangers and Girl 6 are weak tracks IMO. She Spoke To Me is great but since that subsequently came out in a much better version on The Vault Girl 6 is top of my drinks coaster list. if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

I did and do dig it, but I sure do hate that title track!
Small wonder Tommy Barbarella never had too many writing credits.

I'm more into R&B and soul that rock and pop, so I never purchased SOTT or some of Prince's more "creative" albums. I absolutely LOVE the Girl 6 soundtrack because it gave me songs that I had been wanting for years. The movie, on the other hand, they could have kept, but I listen to the soundtrack more than any other Prince album. Nasty Girl by Vanity 6 is one of my all-time favorite songs. It's 1984 All Over Again!

Basically a best of CD really; I don't consider it as a real Prince album.
The movie was hooooorrrible.

I love both the movie and the album! Matter of fact, I just got the album a couple of weeks ago. I love how "Nasty Girl", "Hot Thing", "Erotic City", "Adore", and "The Cross" were added. They are some of my favorite songs..Especially Erotic City.
I also like the screams of passion by the family.. Peace and Be Wild!!

Great Soundtrack but the movie really does suck.
Why does it suck so badly? Its one of Spikes worst films due to the lead directing, lack of balance in the script - post editing. Mainly.. Girl6 is an elementary character. Her job, relationship and dialogue is dumbed down to where Spike had the script dragging at times. In contrast, the imbalance occurs when he trys to mix the moronic "Kid falling down the elevator shaft" idea and it just ruins the film. I understand what Spike was trying to do, but he did a piss-poor job in the editing of it, whereas he didn't hit the target. Some scenes are really good! Others are so bad that the critics roasted the bad directing as one of Spikes pet project wet dreams. The film is ranked #1274 on YMDB's Worst Movie Guide http://www.ymdb.com

Obviously the songs are great, but I have to say that I was a bit disappointed by it for the
following reason. When I saw the tracklist I noticed that the album included the full length album versions of 'Girls & Boys' and 'Adore'. Now on their respective original albums these tracks segue into or out of another song, and I was hoping that since they were now isolated on a new album that they would have been presented better. They could have removed the crowd noise from the beginning of 'Adore' and reinstated the ending onto 'Girls & Boys', but no. They left the crowd noise on 'Adore' (which makes no sense since it's not preceeded by a live track), and 'Girls & Boys' just fades off early to disguise the fact that it doesn't have an ending. Disappointing lack of attention to detail.
