Very 'chaos and disorder'-like. It's a OK song.

I haven't thought about that way but it does have that "Chaos and Disorder" feel to it.

I think the song kicks butt, I'ts got a funky upbeat tempo, and speaks about how the world perceives her today. smile

I'd like to but I don't know much about this song to make an intellectual comment on it.

I think it's a pretty good tune but it is spoiled by two things: Firstly his vocals sound too fuzzy, and secondly the chorus melody is incredibly weak.

I really do not like this track. Im dissapointed that it has been choosen as the single in the UK. I believe it will be critically panned. Thats a shame. I hope im wrong.

All's well til that chorus hits; it's too unimaginative and flat sounding.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

indeed

more specifically, very "I Like It There"-like

"CG" and "A Million Days" are musically muddy, inmyveryhumbleandotherwiseoverlookedopinion

Reminds me more of So Far So Pleased, particularly because the production seems bad on both.

I think CG is catchier than So Far... though.

Some of the lyrics sound forced "cinnamon girl of mixed heritage"

Some just sound cheesy "as war drums beat in babylon."

I actually like this song, because it's not that often that he does straight forward pop rock (yes I like Chaos & Disorder).

I also like the odd bit: "cuz we know how this movie's ending"

Cinnamon Girl

As war drums beat in Babylon
Cinnamon girl starts 2 pray
Eye've never heard a prayer like this 1
Never b4 that day

Tearful words of love 4 people she had never met b4
Asking God 2 grant them mercy in this face of a holy war

Cinnamon Girl

Cinnamon Girl of mixed heritage
Never knew the meaning of color lines
911 turned that all around
When she got accused of this crime

So began the mass illusion, war on terror alibi
What's the use when the god of confusion keeps on telling the same lie?

Cinnamon Girl

Don't cry, don't shed no tears
1 night won't make us feel
Cause we know how this movie's ending

Cinnamon Girl

As war drums beat in Babylon
And scorch the blood red sky
Militants bomb the foreign gun
Both sides truly die

Cinnamon girl opens the book she knows will settle all the scores
Then she prays after the war that there will not b anymore

Cinnamon Girl

The lyrics are incredible. I now think the music is incredible, but am never able to decide if I love the music as much as I do because of the words.

Overall, a great song!

This is the one song on Musicology that peaked my interest on first listen.

Right when I heard the vocal part that begins with 'Tearful words of love ....'; the song, for me, is taken to another level. I heard that and thought 'this is a hit if it gets airplay.'

It's definitely not groundbreaking stuff and the sound and beat is more Springsteen than Prince but the imagery is nice and that vocal part throughout the song is very catchcy and 'joyful' sounding

I agree with those that say the chorus is pretty bland. But Prince knows his non-fam audience and he knows this is what they're capable of singing along to. "Cinnamon Giiirrrrrlllll". With a good video, it should be a hit.

I'd especially like to see the Marrying Kind as a single and video. Prince playing a Gemini/Joker role in the video. All nice and evil at the same time. Very cool song with good lyrics.

One of the weakest songs Prince had ever released IMO, i can't believe that one was chosen as a single disbelief

The more I listen to this track, the more I'm digging it. It does have that flavor to it.

Would you say that it runs on the same flavor as "What Do You Want Me to Do?"

I really don't like CG, i think it is nothing like what do u want me to do either other than having quirky lines

On the album CG stood out to me on first listen but then grew tired very fast and now just does my head in!!!! confused

The lyrics are great and very timely. And by the way peeps...over 200 plus songs in commercial career. Don't ya think some songs can't help but sound alike since the same person made them? That shit/ctitique kills me. If u watch a great athlete play lets say Jordan. Or watch clips of Ali's fights back 2 back. They will do alot of their signature moves. Same in music with P. He's going 2 repeat himself and he should bcuz he's great at what he does. I think that's a good thing!

What's great about "Cinnamon Girl" is that it actually WORKS on the radio...it sounds good sandwiched in between any two other typical songs on the radio today (in a number of formats, too).

WXRT Chicago plays an ecclectic blend of rock: mostly off the beaten path, critical darling, college-edged, alt rock and time-tested favorites. And THEY play the HELL out of "Cinnamon Girl" right now. And the djs always follow it with talking about how much they love it.

Other songs on "Musicology" are "too funk for top 40" or "too R&B for top 40/pop/AC" or whatever. "Cinnamon Girl" is topical, familiar with a hint of fresh, and as far as I can tell, one of Prince's real chances of getting some f#%^ing AIRPLAY!!!!!

Even if I didn't like the song, I'd love it for that alone!

I like the beat and the mellow keyboard noise, so I like the end when he stops singing, and it goes on for a while... I don't like the melody of his vocal/chorus or the lead keys and guitar.

When I first bought "Musicology", "Cinnamom Girl" was the ONLY song I liked on the whole album. The music has a kinda 80s feel to it. I could be wrong but I want to say I even hear a hint of synths in the song. That's what I love.

The rest of the album, I had to listen to and warm up to.
