Great song. I much prefer the original version on "Come" though. Real music...(all together now) FOR REAL MUSIC LOVERS! Good point though.

"So Dark" has nothing on "Dark"! The mix of "So Dark" tries to turn it into another generic R&B jam, not to mention how it virtually buries the vocals.

The sound of the original "Dark" evokes the mood that the title implies. The church organ is perfect, and the vocals are given the justice they deserve.

Dark is a classic.

So Dark sounds patched together, which it is.

You're thinking of the spoken-word bits that come between songs ("My left hand under your head, while my right embraces time" etc.) which are based on the Song of Solomon.

I agree I like the Come version better. I never felt the CB version too much.
The original sounds sadder and has more hurt in it too me.

Inspired by his break-up with Carmen Electra.

TOTALLY agree! Without the brilliantly arranged horn section and live band, this jam ain't as good! How could anyone rate a tinny drum machine over such a great sounding band? Craziness.

i like the crystal ball version "so dark" too, but I have always liked prince music for making a simple repetitive sequence addictive and emotional.... "sign o the times" the song for example. I respect the come version, but would much rather hear the title track or pheremone or papa or dare I say it... loose....

"Dark" is one of my absolute favorite tracks from the "Come" album. I hate the "Crystal Ball" version of it, it has a hip hop feel to it.
