SOTT

In 1988 Prince was nominated for SOTT, MJ for Bad, U2 for the Joshua Tree, and a couple of others that I cannot recall for Album of the Year 1987.When U2 won Prince looked like he was going to blow up the joint. I think that he felt that if he lost to Jackson that it would not be as bad (no pun intended) but U2?

If anyone has a copy of this on tape please let me know I would pay money !!!!!

It as up against some heavy competition that year. It was nominated for album of the year against "Faith" by George Michael (which also won). Those are 2 of my favorite albums of all time. I think Sign O' The Times should have won for best R&b album at least.

The Gold Experience is another, as well as The Rainbow Children. These are some of the best albums he's ever released.

what is it with people who say "should of"?

it's "should HAVE"!

I think Prince fans have to have some of the WORST grammar and spelling.

"Sign O the Times" should have won a grammy, definitely.

I thought I was the only one that cringed when I saw it spelled that way. But it's not a Prince fan thing, as far as I can tell it's a cyberspace thing. I've been seeing people spell it that way for years on the net, but not usually outside of it. If I had to guess I think people spell it the way they hear it in their heads: the contraction "should've" sounds like "should of" to them, although "should of" makes no sense.

A couple more that annoy me:

'Genius' not 'Genious'

'I couldn't care less' NOT 'I could care less' (think about it)

And back on topic; 'How did Prince lose that Grammy?' not 'How did Prince loose that Grammy?' disbelief

The real question is which CD doesn't deserve a Grammy, as far as I see he's the only artist that continues to challenge himself (Madonna doesn't count because she only contrives the concept and does not produce herself)
OK U2 but they almost fell off and Bowie hasn't really impressed me lately ( I love his 80's stuff). How many CD's have the other artist released since 87?
( George Michael is consistent in style but hasn't really pushed the envalope).
Prince continues to create with no fear of failure! That's art. Would be nice if he named a CD after his nickname.
We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

That's easy: Sign O' the Times! Even Bono said that P should have one the grammy instead of the gawd-awful Joshua Tree!

Definitely most overlooked Prince album!! Had he released this album during his peak it would have garnered more attention and would surely been nominated and had won for Album of the year!!

rainbowchild I agree with your comment totally. If Rainbow Children had of been released in say 1989 or say 1993 what a world of difference it would of made. I ponder to think that pop music may have truly benefitted from some true Prince influence during that decade.

SOTT also of course should have won in 1987 and 1988 if that were possible. What a truly astonishing LP. Remember the image of Camille in the wire frame glasses and the ghostly image almost floating through light...brilliant is such a lesser word for what I felt during those musical days.

Definitely 'Sign O The Times',which was better than almost anything else released in 1987.I also think 'Love Symbol' deserved a Grammy or two.
