Top 100 AFI/movie songs on CBS - Prince I just happened to tune in...it's sort of lame but was Prince ever mentioned? There up to #50. It's like the best sountrack - singles of all time, including - Irene Cara - What a Feeling, and Rocky. Anyone checking it out?

I saw it from #80 or so on down to #1. Some good stuff on there, mostly classic standards and musicals represented, but no Prince....
Unless he was in the 80 to 100 range, he's not on here. I'm pretty surprised, because that final scene in Purple Rain and that song made for a pretty big movie moment.

Nope...I watched it from start to finish...no love 4 Purple Rain....but of course we get EMINEM shoved down our throats AGAIN !!!
I'm so DAMN tired of "Lose Yourself" !!! ::Official Member of the 1978-1995 Club::

i feel ya.
prince was nowhere to be found on their list.. how could you not mention purple rain? HELLO! or batman(1989) for that matter?

What was number 1#? Since I have'nt seen the show, I won't comment on its validity.
But it does scream of being bogus without any Prince yet they add Eminiem Jeux Sans Frontiers

#1 was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" which I would guess makes sense. ::Official Member of the 1978-1995 Club::

#1 was "round & round" from GB! tevin is getting some serious props now!
now, wouldn't y'all flip a lid if that happened? or what if it was "jungle love" from purple rain? or "melody cool"? or "batdance"? what we all expect? darlin' nikki? of course its gonna be wizard of oz, and casablanca, and grease, and that really overblown eminem losin' himself. that 8 mile flic...while good, was only a purple rain knock-off based in detroit rather than mpls. sorry y'all, but if there's 1 thing the lord loves, its the truth...

I'm so DAMN tired of "Lose Yourself" !!! Can you BELIEVE that shit?? They put Eminem on their list but not Prince, I watched the whole thing..."8 Mile" was INSPIRED by "Purple Rain" but they don't put that on their list, 8 Mile came out only two years ago, Rain came out 20 years ago....that's insane...and then the bitch who's the chairwoman of AFI or whatever had the nerve to tell us to complain if we don't see our song on the list, well DUH. The Org is the short yellow bus of the Prince Internet fan community.

Let's Go Crazy opening from Purple Rain was bananas! Ladies and Gentlemen the Revolution. Man that's what i don't like about these lists. they use them to disrespect and overlook artists more than they do to give props. I mean this list is neither here nor there in Prince's world, but it does just seem like a slap in the face not to include him when he undeniably belongs there. (to me anyway)

I'm so DAMN tired of "Lose Yourself" !!! this is probably the most overrated song ever. it makes VH-1's top 10 when they did the top 50 songs of the past 25 years, now it makes this list??? Oh yeah another lame overrated song made the AFI list "I will always love you" by good ole whitney. Purple Rain deserved to be on this list. I would put it somewhere in the top 10, above the Bee Gee's "Stayin Alive". Positivity YES
Have U had your + 2day? | |

These lists suck ass. I was none too happy see Eminem on the list but not Prince when it's obvious that Purple Rain influenced 8 Mile. That's Bullshit. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I saw this and was not too ompressed. I was wondering if P would be there but no.
I had an issue with the songs sung vs. soundtrack stff. I thought it should have been seperated. The top 10 had issues too. Moon River? The way we were? I love that song but top 10? White Chistmas..please! Christian Zombie Vampires

White Chistmas..please! It was some bullshit!!!!! Purple Rain served as a major fucking influence on pop culture. I mean c'mon - the Grammy's had Prince open up the fucking show. I mean M&M is a lot more controversial than P. And Whitney Houston @ #67, WTF! That Bodyguard shit was huge - broke all kinds of fucking records. WTF! Did her drug use bring her popularity down that much? We need to see MTV do one!

Let's Go Crazy was nominated according to the AFI.com site.

Anyone planning to write these people? Both Whitney Houston's low ranking and P's non-ranking are a travesty...

As I said the combo of people singing - musical sand such and soundtrack stuff - like the Bee gees SNF soundtrack threw it off. I am not even sure how a song got nominated or what the criteria was for this list. Christian Zombie Vampires

I don't see Hard Days Night on there anywhere or Help either. These lists are stupid and useless but for some idiodic reason it does bother me when they overlook such obvious choices.
