Is it me or does this question come up a lot?
I even started a thread a while back. Maybe there should be some sort of FAQ round here...one that answers the most common questions like this one. From what I have read...It appears to have been a movie idea that perhaps became Grafftti Bridge and he was hinting at it like he always hints (or at least used to) to what might be next. I am sure that it's vague/religious/mysterious meaning was on purpose. Strange though, it's still a timeless phrase. Christian Zombie Vampires

Well, for me the dawn potentially could have been three things.
First, if Prince really meant all the bullshit about becoming an alter-ego , the dawn wouldn’t be so meaningless in value. Some believe that it represented a spiritual and musical rebirth which Prince was going to usher in when he finally became . All Prince albums state in the album sleeves "May U Live 2 See the Dawn.". All albums state "Welcome 2 The Dawn". This meant that the dawn could've represented the time in which Prince was finally free to release anything he wanted--the moment that the flood gates on his musical Vault would be shared with the world. Remember "There are 500 experiences to choose from"? That was when was calling songs experiences. Second, the dawn could have represented the idea of Prince finally attaining his utopian vision. Remember he'd often talked about imagining a place that was free from all the repressive crap that people where having to put up with during the 80's? The Paisley Parks, the stupid bridges, the ladder--all that shit. Well, it was his way of saying that we now connect at a higher level in some place in our hearts. The Dawn was supposed to represent this. Now connecting at that higher level means we're rainbow children--and my Buddhist ass ain't haven't that shit. Third, The Dawn is an album-an unreleased album. If you heard the album that was bundled with Crystal Ball called "The Truth", you would have heard a version of a track from the supposedly forthcoming album for the Dawn called "The Dawn". ***** HOWEVER *****8 Prince is a musical genius--not a philosopher. His stupid play on words and pseudo philosophies don't amount to anything. They're almost embarrassing really. It's when he sings songs that are universally identifiable when he is at his best. That is why "When Doves Cry" is so powerful--because we all have felt isolated or betrayed. Or why allot of us like his slow jams--because we all like to get a little freaky. None of us have pondered the bullshit of the Akashik records or the idea that none of the creatures in the animal kingdom nurses past maturity. That's bullshit. And that is why the dawn is bullshit. Although I think it will be a great album if it is ever released. .. [This message was edited Thu Jun 24 19:10:40 2004 by AsianBomb777]
