NOT EVEN ONE SONG?

This topic may have already been disussed, but people on this site, please explain to me why not even one Musicology song has been played on the radio? Prince has been selling out concerts all over the country, Musicology has been given great reviews, so why no play?

Good Question.

Musicology got some play...it was the first song and got a lot of hype. Call my name is doing a bit better. I think the reason it's not getting as much play is he's not one of the newer artists...and that's a shame. It does seem that not only is he solely bringing on the success that this album is getting, as just like his previous efforts it's not getting radio play...but it seems that even with this success, the radio and the video channels aren't giving it a chance. Esp with the videos...it's like they played it to be nice..not to actually generate interest. Again...it's a shame, because much of their audiences are going to go see him and ARE very interested.

I think Clear Channel has a lot to do with Radio play.

The only radio I ever listen to is in the shower and it's usually on NPR, but I'll change channels occasionally if it gets boring. Even so, I have managed to hear both 'Musicology" and "Call My Name" played on Detroit area stations. So if it may not be getting the attention some fans would like, it's still doing better than any Prince release in years.

The CHR station here will not play it, they said it is an AC song....meaning for the older audience. sigh

Well, Prince isn't touring with Clear Channel and considering Clear Channel controls so much of the radio these days...

WXRT in Chicago loves "Cinnamon Girl." Every time I have listened to that station in the past three days, I haven't had to wait longer than 20 minutes to hear it.

Other than that, I'm starting to take the "who cares" attitude. We have the albums, and we would only get irritated by a bunch of casual new fans who would just drop away if they didn't like Prince's next album (and if it's a jazz disc as rumored, you WOULD lose those new fans).

I hate to say it, but I like things the way they are. Maybe it's my ego. After seeing him live again last night, it just reminded me that I am somehow smarter than those who don't know...ha ha!

I GUESS IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE. DETROIT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PRINCE CITY AND TO HEAR PEOPLE SAY THAT CLEAR CHANNEL DOES NOT PLAY PRINCE IS INTERESTING TO ME
BECAUSE THEY PLAY CALL MY NAME ALL THE TIME. I'VE HEARD ONE STATION PLAY DEAR MR. MAN, AND MUSICOLOGY ON ANOTHER STATION. cool I LISTEN TO 92.3 AT WORK AND THE WILL PLAY CALL MY NAME ABOUT 5 - 6 TIMES BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 10AM - 5PM.

Its great that radio isnt playing that thing, my girlfriend bought me that thing, and i threw it away, we went to the concert and we got two more copies and threw those away too, its a terrible album, we went to the concerts to hear the good stuff for what they say is the last time!
meaning unless he starts making good music again, or doesnt really retire the good stuff, he wont be selling out ever agian.

I've heard Musicology a bunch in San Diego, and Cinnamon Girl and Call My Name a couple of times. I don't expect to hear them for long and not just because I don't listen to radio all that much. The bottom line is that nothing on Musicology has any staying power when it comes to popular radio. Its a decent album that's bound to be supported by Prince fans, but to the general public, who are probably don't have the patience for the multiple listens it might take for some of the tracks to grow on them, they're just mediocre songs.

I still think that P is still an outsider 2 the Music Bigwigs and since they controll the Video&Radio playlist then P will only get a lukewarm reception from them at best. They can't control his ticket sales or most reviews but they can keep him out of heavy rotation on radio&video. I would go as far 2 say that the success of Usher is welcomed by the Industry's Prince haters bcuz with no Usher, Prince would dominate the headlines and that they can't have. The Rebel of traditional Music bizness ways on top would send the wrong message. That's y all of the fuss over the concert cd's controversy!

As far as Musicology not having catchy enuff songs or strong songs 4 singles is BS! If u hear the National Anthem over&over long enuff u will think it was catchy 2.
