Don't hate me, but I like Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares To U" more than P's. She puts an emotional punch to it that Prince somehow lacked. I'm not putting the man down...its just a preference.

I agree with U 100%.

She was an angry bald headed lipstick lesbian done wrong by the Catholic church while growing up, and being used and abused by black boys on mopeds--She KNOWS pain.

The emotional conviction was intense in her rendition. I just think the song dragged a wee bit towards the end, whereas Prince's song had more vibrance. Overall, she wins on that one.

Yeah but it wasn't intended to be taken as a joke. Seriously, I did like "If you only knew" (I think that was the title) from Tom Jones circa that same time. It got a lot of rotation on MTV.

Sinead O'Connor's version of Nothing Compares 2 U. In my honest opinion, she ruined that song and it hurts me to hear it. I find it really disappointing when I meet people who've only heard her version and they think SHE wrote it. And when they find out there's a Prince version they think he redid it and that he did a bad job because it doesn't sound like "the original". I hate that, and I hate the way she ruined the song. Sorry to all I've insulted.

Tom Jones' version of Kiss. Hearing Tom try to sound as sexy as Prince did in that song is just...creepy.

I hated that shit too! Especially the video. 2nd runner up is Tom's rendition of Kiss.

uterly ridiculous...just absurd. That is clearly one of the better remakes of any of Princes record. Sisco and Mariah did a wonderful job on that song

Nope its got to be Kiss or Genuine's horrific cover of Doves Cry

The worst "remake" is Prince's own live-version of "nothing compares to u", with Rosie on co lead-vocals.

The Family's version is great
Sinead's version is touching
Prince's Live versions suck all the way

Tom Jone's verison of "Kiss" is proabbly the worst cover of a prince song ever although I have heard a cover of 1999 from linkin park or limp bizkit and that verison sucks pretty bad too and sinead's verison of "Nothing compares 2 U" is better than Prince's verison. IMO.

I don't mind Tom Jones' "Kiss". Relatively weak but it's a nice take on it. And let's face it - lyrically, that song has Tom Jones written all over it.

Dead or Alive's "Pop Life" was pretty awful.

I heard a remake version of Erotic City a few months ago. I don't know who remade it. It sounded kinda like St. paul, but I can'r say for sure. The song started OK then it just crashed when they tried to sound like prince. I'll take the original version any day.

OH! Well they do that to every song. I actually have A LOT of their songs. I think they're pretty cool actually. I've never heard their version of Purple Rain, but I'll look for it. Mostly they just take older songs (60s/70s) and redo them with superfast punky beats. I guess their version of Purple Rain is no different... Although I probably wouldn't be insulted at it since I know it's supposed to sound like that.

Sisqo's attempt at the "Do you want me" part in Beautiful Ones is face-cringing, embarrasingly bad. The funniest cover I've ever seen was at a little community fair thing and a polka band did an uptempo Purple Rain, complete with tuba and banjo and twangy voices. And I caught it on local access cable, no less, jaw dropped and remote fell outta my hand. At the end they said something like "I hope the little guy wasn't watching"

u aint insult me i hate her version 2...i haven't heard it but i heard that cyndi laupers version of when u were mine is pretty bad...and it wouldn't surprise me if it did bcuz her At Last album which has covers sucks soooo bad..Etta James needs 2 whoop her ass for messin up At Last.

When Doves Cry - Ginuwine..how DARE he touch that song and destroy it totally?

i wouldn't say destroy it totally...his singin is ok...he's sang wayyyyy better...but 2 me the beat is what fucks it all up..When Doves Cry just wasn't meant 2 go hip hop

23 discriptions and a one night stand makes even less sense. Cause at least with 23 scriptures, you can assume that maybe reading holy texts makes him horny. Now I'm completely confused.

I would have to say it would be a combination of these three:
1. Mariah and Dru Hill killing The Beautiful Ones
2. Tom Jones slaughtering Kiss
3. Prince and the celebrities distroying 1999 one the Rave Un2 the Year 2000
