Prince and Beer June 16th 2004

Just as I was enjoying the concert dancing and having a wonderful time looking cute and had it going on, all of a sudden SPLASH beer all down my back and in my chair. I was like DAMN what the F@*K!!! This couple behind me spilled beer all over me. That is when I was ready to go. Then the couple that was in front of me spilled beer on a couple that was in front of them.

I feel that if Prince was so concern about keeping a good and wholesome image. Why let these venues sell beer to idiots who can’t hold their liquor in all aspects? I was very upset and wanted my money back for a concert that I left early because I was wet, but we all know that that is out of the question. For now on whenever he has a concert I will just have to hear about it or try to attend his after shows. Because $76.00 is a lot of money to be spending on a concert that you couldn’t really enjoy.

i had noticed that too, there were quite a few people at the show i attended (friday's show) who kept walkin back and forth with full-assed cups of beer/alcohol in their hands. luckily i didn't get anything spilled on me, but it was still dumb.

i don't think ol' boy has control over what the venues can serve and can't....hmmm

Prince cannot dictate to a venue that they cannot sell beer. He can only choose to play venues that do not serve beer/alcoholic beverages.

Those who literally cannot hold their booze are responsible for their actions.

It really sucks that you got beer spilled down your back and that it ruined your night. I, myself, have never understood why someone would want to get sloppy drunk in public, let alone, a Prince concert (which is a superior high to beer/alcohol anyway).

Damn aint somebody all full of snot. So what you think the "white couple" did it on purpose? Cause you sure act like spilling beer is a crime of intent. Why don't you relax and realize that shit happens. And that shit especially happens at concerts. So next time why don’t try drinking a little more or let up the waistband and loosen up.

A lot, the majority that was around me was drinking beer and spilling it all over the place. Plus the majority of the people that attended the show was white and it is a fact. It was like going to a baseball game or hockey game and you would only see a few black faces in the crowd.

You must be the one who spilled it on me. biggrin. I feel that people need to be more careful and courteous of others. I know that they didn't do it on purpose, but it tends to be a problem when people start to drink and get sloppy drunk and ruin a $76.00 show for me. Hold your Damn Liquor!!!

That happened to me at a Rolling Stones concert a few years back. This dude behind me was rockin out with beer in hand and lost his grip and I got soaked. I was pissed off, but he made up for by buyin me beer the rest of the night and his girlfirend bought me a t-shirt I changed into so I wasn't all wet for the rest of the night. They both were really apologetic and cool about it. But I feel your pain...I was sticky and smelled like a brewery the rest of the night. Probably was just an accident, did they at least apologize?

Agreed. If I had beer spilled on me then I came to the org and said "this black couple" then I would been labelled a racist and red neck etc.

BUT, I do agree. I'm not racist, but I am an ANTI-DRUNK-ITE. I hate people who drink at Prince concerts. I always go to concerts clean and sober to try and get the most of the experience. I hate that feeling of not being able to concentrate fully on what's going on, and it makes me mad when people ruin the my experience by their drunkeness.

Maybe I'm not one to talk because sometimes I do enjoy a few beers but I went to Prince three nights in a row and had exactly zero. I bought one bottled water the first night and sharred with my wife and one bottled water the third night and sharred with my son. I don't want to have to go to the bathroom and miss something for one thing (during the three shows I left my seat exactly ZERO times!) I also want to be fully straight and just enjoy the shows, the music, not worry about drinking! I was amazed at how much beer the nice couple who sat next to us the first night drank. Though they were not obnoxious and di not spill! The second night there was a very drunk obnoxious woman who was plainly wasted. I was right by where the women who go on stage to dance go up. She was obsessed with getting on stage and kept trying to get security to let her go up. She kept bugging the guy through the show. Needless to say shen never made it up and after awhile she was gone so I wonder if she got booted out. I hope so. WHy do people wanna act like that at a Prince concert? Luckily the third night when I took my six year old son, there were no really obnoxious drunks around us. If anyone had spilled beer on him I would gone ballistic!

You said yourself that lots of people were doing it so this suggests that it was indeed an accident and not a vicitmisation. The large number of one race of people has nothing to do with beer being spilled over you. It merely suggests that, in a busy room of predominately white people, the chances of having beer spilled onto you by a white person is higher. Sorry to hear that your night was spoiled. Personally, I don't drink as i feel it often brings out the worst in people - if only making somebody highly clumsy. Dont tag it down to a race issue though.

seriously, i don't like to drink before a prince show either. heck, i don't really like drinking before ANY concert, unless it's one i've been dragged to that i don't really wanna be at...and even THEN, it's not like i'm exactly pumped up to hit the bar.

but hey, that's just me. so if it's any consolation, i'm a so-called "white guy" and i don't drink beer at prince shows. biggrin

should i now say that there was a black chick at the indianapolis show who kept getting up to pee and stepped on my mom's foot? you know those young black women. always peein' ever five seconds and steppin' on old ladies' feet. rolleyes

or what about the nordic looking woman next to me at the champaign show who could NOT put her cell phone down for two seconds? damn nordic people, always on their cells. johnwoo mobile

then there was that short dude on stage who wouldn't stand still. stinkin' short people, they need to chill out. mad chill pill

But If u spill your beer on someone black

I went to the show on the 17th with a lady friend of mine and as we were leaving she noticed the bottom of her pants had beer on them and it was leaking into her socks...there was so much beer on the floor her pants just absorbed it. the people infront of us seriously drank beer the entire time and they just smelled nasty...the only bad part of the night....was the BEER!

dancing jig

I second that.....(hilarious PROSE by the way)

But really, I was thinking the same thing when I read this person's post on the NPG boards. I was thinkin, "Man, if I wrote 'Some black couple spilled their drink all over me!!!' I would be sooooo attacked it wouldn't even be funny!" Think before u type people.....

With regards to beer being spilled, this happened at the 3/29 opener at Staples in LA. I thought what the girl did in response was completely innappropriate though. The two guys next to me accidently spilled some of their beer on the back of her. She whipped around and started freakin out. They were totally apologetic.....must have apologized at least 10 times. Well, this didn't seem to be enough for her because she grabbed her water bottle, opened it up, and splashed its contents all over the two guys (these guys were right next to me and some of this water even got on me!) In my opinion, that was totally uncalled for. An accident is an accident - what she did was 100% deliberate and to me, made her look pretty wacky

It's a CONCERT!!! People drink, smoke cigarettes and/or weed at CONCERTS.....r people surprised at this? This is not a new phenomenon which is why parents should think twice about bringing their small children to shows, esp. shows in cities like SF and LA cuz there's lots of absolut smoker kisses martini beer going

alright y'all. you are acting like you went to see the frickin symphony or sumptin. YOU WENT TO A CONCERT. A STADIUM CONERT.

This means: lotsa drinkin, rowdy frat boys, smoking in that bathrooms and everywhere else there isn't security, etc.

The huge majority of the crowd weren't insane prince-heads like us. They paid their hard earned money as much as everyone else and have the right to enjoy the show how they see fit.

That being said, bwnladybug, it sucks that someone spilled on you and didn't offer to do anything about it. Did you tell security? I do agree that spilling ON others crosses the line. But I laugh when people attend major shows and complain about others havin their own fun.

For the record, I enjoyed some drinks one night. I timed this with the night I ended up with aisle seats so I wouldn't be making others move the whole time. This night I had a blast and didn't spill a drop.

Another night I wasn't drinking, but I did get a soda. This night I did have to use the bathroom and make people move so I could get out. Burn me at the stake, I guess. Also, this night the soda was knocked over at some point. The woman next to me was dancing barefoot so I warned her and she just said "well it's a concert, of course stuff is gonna get spilled" and she kept on dancing. It was not some big crisis.

I dunno, that's the attitude I go to major shows with. I've been spilled on, crashed into, etc. While I may get upset for a moment I refuse to let others ruin my night. People will be PARTYING and it's not my place to determine how 20,000 people can and should have fun.
