"This is my music school," says saxophonist Mike Phillips, 28, pausing to chat after a sound check. Phillips has played with Stevie Wonder, but says Prince has made him reconsider how he plays his instrument.

"I get private lessons from the guy that have made me a better musician, and he doesn't even play the saxophone. When I first joined the band I played a solo, and he came up to me later and said, `Think of it as if you're courting a woman. You're not gonna run up to her and start babbling. You're gonna take your time.' And he was right. I was trying to pack in every idea I had to wow the crowd, and he taught me how to talk to the crowd."

eek i knew it!

True. But people who aren't fans remember him from the Purple Rain era, and before, most generally...

maybe in the USA , outside of there hes remembered for the Purple Rain era and the decade afterwards , when he gathered his hardcore european fanbase etc

"This is my new single," he declared in introducing "Call My Name" in St. Paul. "But radio will never play it."

i hope he's wrong...

I just heard it yesterday here in D.C. ...not surprising really, musicology was blowing up the airwaves here when it came out

I wonder what the scented candles that Prince had burning smelled like? I just love candles! Yankee Candle makes a real pretty one called Lilac Blossoms. I love the way it smells when I burn it, the whole house smells like a lilac bush. smile
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

He had candles burning in the MEN'S bathroom at Paisley Park during the Aftershows. It was quite a pleasant surprise!

"Call My Name" is actually doing quite well in terms of airplay and has been since it debuted. It was the #1 most added single the week it was serviced to radio. It's sitting at #7 on Radio & Record's Urban AC chart with 752 spins this week and at #36 on their Urban chart with 683 spins. The single is also this week's #1 Most Increased Plays Urban AC single with +218.

"Musicology" on the other hand, is sitting comfortably at #13 on the Urban AC chart with 289 spins this week.

On Billboard's end, the album - which debuted at #3 on their Hot 200 albums chart - is currently sitting at #5 but that's Soundscan not BDS spins.

All in all, "Call My Name" is a strong follow-up to "Musicology".
