Can someone help me with this...wasnt the "1999" single initially released as the first single from the 1999 album in Sept. 1982....it hit #3 r&b but faltered on the pop charts ....only after "Corvette" became a hit in May 1983, Prince re-released the "1999" single where it hit pop? Is this true or am I remembering incorrectly?

I think back when 1999 only hit #44 on the U.S. Charts and #25 on the U.K. chats -- Little Red Corvette hit #6 on The U.S. charts and #54 on the U.K. Charts - I don't remember if Prince re-released 1999 again.

After seeing the video for 1999 I did'nt care if it hit #1 - I loved it from the start!

I don't think it's really as 'black & white' as that.

I think when 1999 was re-released, it was only really serviced to 'Pop' radio (it had already been
a big hit on R&B), hence it only getting a pop chart placing second time around.
