Prince and Marilyn Manson should collaborate

I'd love to see this. Hell, Marilyn's style is practically a ripoff of Prince's Dirty Mind/Controversy era, and Marilyn is an admirer of Prince's work. From what I've read, the used to be acquaintances, and Prince came to a party of Manson's. Marilyn's music is siumilar to Prince's, it's like a more melodic gothic rock, with the use of keyboards and synthesizers. The two have a lot of similarities, as they are both androgynous. They could make some good music together.

I would love to see them work together. Manson seems to be a very cool guy. Amusingly, if they ever did collaborate, we'd probabbly have alot of overnight Manson fans on here.

Perhaps one of them can get the ball rollin by coverin the other one's song.

It would be fantastic, but I could never see Prince being up for it (especially now).

Can't say I'm a big fan of MM's music, I really liked Mechanical Animals, but not much else has interested me - but I'm always interested in reading his interviews, I think he's a very plugged in person.

Gotta disagree... Manson is performance artist whose real talent lies not so much in his music - but his ability to shock and create a certain imagery... while Prince is more of a real musician whose musical talent overshadows Manson's by miles.

Marilyn is an amusing guy, though... and if he was gonna collaborate w/P, he really should've jumped on board with Prince's Black Album... maybe a cover of Bob George? smile

Heh, that could work pretty well. It would be the 2004 version of the LoveSexy/Black Album era. That could go well if Prince would ever agree to do it.

Not really. Yes, Prince is highly religious and Marilyn Manson is a strict atheist, but they still have more similarities than differences. Both are practically outcasts and are very eccentric in the eyes of the press.

Prince and Marilyn Manson is just a little unrealistic I think. I personally think that Prince and Charlie Waller should collaborate. I think that'd be much more realistic.

i don't think of manson as being a musician. not that i think he's an untalented musician or songwriter, but i think of him as a provocateur first, a performer second, a writer/artist third and a musician last. no shame in that, but it is what it is. i think p's more about the music these days, or at least that's what he's been trying to tell us this year. i just can't see prince making the funk face w/ habibi while marilyn manson is stomping around him in a light-up g-string and 8' spider stilts. i just really don't see that happening for some reason, but that's just me.

Musically it could be a fantastic collaboration. Manson has done some great music especially on "Mechanical Animals" and "Holy Wood". I really wish Prince would come up with something like that but nowadays his guitar-based tracks sound completely lifeless and boring like "Cinnamon Girl" for example.
But with Princes current mindset a collaboration is absolutely impossible and i think both their egos are too big to collaborate with each other.

I don't think Manson has ripped off any style from that era, and I'd love to know where you read that they were acquaintances. But a collaberation between those two would be great. Not only would the music be interesting, but it could be good for Prince's career. It would show that he's not afraid to get a little wild and he would tap into younger audiences a lot better than he is now. I know Manson would do it, but I think Prince would be too much of a sissy.

I'd love it if Marilyn Manson and Prince worked together! Unfortunately, I don't think ti would ever happen. Like it's been said, both have massive fucking egos and seem to be control freaks. Prince probably wouldn't want to work with Manson anyway, though I can see him finding the idea of a musical collaboration intriguing, if nothing else.

Mechanical Animals was partly inspired by Prince (and mostly Bowie/Ziggy, some Madonna, & T-Rex)
according to MM. He's not much of a musician, but I've seen him live...awesome. I'd love to see Prince and Manson-it'd never happen. Prince usually only works with sub-par R&B prince wannabe people. Never sub-par rock prince wannabes...oh well.

Really I don't think Prince has ever collaborated with anyone on his level besides Kate Bush (and those were hardly collaborations). Oh well....just the way Prince is. I'm not complaining....

Manson seems to be an Alice Cooper rip-off more so than Prince.....in my opinion.

No... bad idea.

Besides it will only happen if Manson becomes a witnness or at the very least a full blown born again.

I remember many years ago (mid-90s),Marily Manson was planning some sort of collaboration with rapper Snoop Dogg. Not sure if it ever materialized. As for him working with Prince...it ain't gonna happen.Even before he became a JW,Prince was never really into collaborations with other artists (besides his own proteges).

Yes, and we would all hope Manson finally could get Prince to understand that the bible is a book.

And then again, Manosn would have to write the lyrics, and Prince the music, or else the whole Manson band would have to join in. But why did I write that. That's not important at all.

And I agree - but wish tofill in - Not without Trent Reznor, but With Tim Skold!

Yeah, Trent Reznor would be a good artist for him to collaborate with too. He's definitely got a Prince influence. His music is like the Minneapolis sound with a harder edge.

But I really hate it how Prince works with only sub-par R&B artists. I think he'd be more respected if he collaborated with someone at his own level, like Trent Reznor, or Marilyn Manson (in the performance sense).

Prince actually seems to be pretty close minded. All he accepts is what the JW's tell him.

Like it or not, the Holy Bible is more than a "book".
Manson is nothing more than a product of Trent Reznor's ego. That's why he and Orgre produced Manson's second LP. Look up Tommy Victor from Prong's opinion about Manson. He was working with Reznor and Manson for the Tapeworm project that never materialized. He stated that song parts that he(Victor) wrote were used for several Manson songs. Pick up a copy of Prong's "Cleansing" and you'll hear the similarities. You can also look in the linear notes and see his name(Tommy Prong). "Beautiful People", Manson's biggest hit, has a guitar riff that sounds exactly like Prong. Check it out for yourself.
Besides that, Manson's recording career is pretty dismal lately. His last album debuted big, but died a couple of weeks later. This has been the pattern for a while. Band members being fired or leaving is never a good sign. Whatever the case, there's usually a reason when musicians(I use that term loosely) drift away from music to make movies.
As far as Trent goes, I could see them working together sometime down the road. They both kind of work the same way in the studio. Trent's next album will probably be really good. Rick Rubin is producing him for the first time. He usually brings out the best in the artists he works with.
