For me, it was:
Parade - At 7 years old, it was my first Prince album & I liked it but I was looking for songs that sounded like what I heard from the past like When Doves Cry or Let's Go Crazy. I got over it very quickly and besides, I was a kid. Graffiti Bridge - I wasn't happy with all guest apperances and I still skip a few tracks but I appreciated it when I brought it on CD in 2000. The Gold Experience - I loved it the 2nd listen, I heard the whole thing instead of 2 or 3 minutes of each song. Emancipation - I didn't think it was bad so much as I thought he was going to come harder with the funk on this. It didn't help that I got The Gold Experience at the same time so, needless to say that saw more time on my walkman than Emancipation did. New Power Soul - the first Prince album that I heard that I didn't like. With the exception of 3 or 4 songs, it would take years for me to hear a few of the songs on that again. I think there are songs that I still haven't listened to all the way since I brought it in 98. [This message was edited Fri Jun 18 8:41:30 2004 by purplecam] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

At 7 years old you were looking for songs that sounded like what you remembered from the past? "Don't you miss the feeling music gave ya...back in kindergarten?" The Normal Whores Club

For some reason I thought I'd hear something like what I had heard before but I was in for a surprise, and a good one at that . It's now my favorite Prince album. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". Everything after "Purple Rain". He changed his style and never went back. Every time I buy one his new albums, a part of me wishes it would be synthesizers all the way through like the pre "Purple Rain" albums.
Prince, if you really want to be back on top, release the follow up album to "1999". Andy is a four letter word.

1. Graffitti Bridge, and it's still weak.
2. Rave. And I still hate it. 3. Ecrapcipation. And it still bores me. I no longer own any of those. And I held on for years, and continued to revisit them, looking for something to show me the interest. Nothing. Zip. Zero. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
