Don't get me wrong, I like "The Black Album" but when I heard it was coming out, I expected it to be a lot different. His first crossover hit was "Little Red Corvette" and then the whole "Purple Rain" album was a crossover hit. "1999" and "Purple Rain" are some of his best albums and all the albums before them were jams. Then like most other black artists, once they get that crossover success, their music becomes weaker. Here comes "Around The World In A Day", "Parade", and "Sign 'O' The Times"...nothing like before, watered down for a crossover audience. So when I heard "The Black Album" was coming out, I expected jams like "Let's Work", "Head", or "Lady Cab Driver"...the kind of jams he did before he crossed over. Futuristic black jams, not the horns and the return to the 1970s.
Andy is a four letter word.

"Don't buy the black album".... those are Prince's words, not mine lol

Personally I think that was a marketing ploy.

Glad you got a hold of this supernatural funk machine. Or rather, that it's got hold of you. It hasn't let go of me in all the years we've been together.

The black album is a great album ….
There’s only one problem:
It made him think about good and bad, and he got worried about how people would judge him ...
So … he withdraw this great album and started to compromise from that day on

In my opinion the black album is far superior to LoveSexy and everything released after that

It could have been considering he played some of the black album on the Lovesexy Tour. Wouldn't it have been great if he released the Black Album and Lovesexy as a double CD?
