I really LOVE all the albums through "Purple Rain" until he changed his style. "Around The World In A Day", "Parade"...his worst album ever, and "Sign 'O' The Times" were all disappointments. But I think "Lovesexy" is the best album he did after "Purple Rain". It reminded me a little of his second album, "Prince". For a minute there, it looked like he was going to go back to his old style...something I have always said he needs to do since 1985 and I still say it to this day. Stop experimenting with these different music styles and get rid of the horns, jazz, hip hop, and bring back the futuristic synthesizers!

Halt!!!!!1

You can't be real. I've never heard anyone dis "SOTT". That's definitely one of his greater albums, but I must say that LoveSexy beats them all to me. I mean, it probably didn't appeal to the masses like Purple Rain, but I mean, that's when the fair-weather fans dropped in and said "Hello"..."Good-Bye".

True Prince fans definitely appreaciate LoveSexy because it was his and he could've given a damn about what others thought, from the cover art to the contents, it was strickly Prince saying, "Um...and you're saying that to say what?".

I love the title track, "LoveSexy". That song just does it for me.

I mean, the title "LoveSexy" alone just says it all. It was the divine grouping up with the cardinal and becoming one in agreement.

I remember reading an article in Essence, during that time, and it lauded Prince as the rocker that always fused God and Sex together. He basically completed the package when he recorded LoveSexy.

That will always be my fav.
Everybody's free to feel good...so, be glad that you are free.

I just dusted it off after 3 or 4 years and had another listen. It worked a dream with the Black Album, I really like that now. But Lovesexy is still my second least favourite after Rave. It's just not coherent enough.

Apparently you missed the boat, cause the "trip" was the best he ever took us on!

I really feel bad for anyone who is barely discovering Lovesexy now, and/or missed it back in the 80's. If you are just discovering this great CD in the past few years... you missed out on everything. The impact it made at the time it was realeased in '88, the videos... God forbid anyone call themself a fan or fam if you missed the Tour! He has yet to put on a better show. If it was before you were born, you're excused.

Otherwise it just boils down to you either getting it or not.

I partly agree with u, and part of me doesn't. Like, yourself and Supa, Im probably one of the biggest Lovesexy fans here, and that whole period was so very special, and personal 2 me that it's hard 2 find the adjectives 2 describe that feeling u get when u fall in love not with a girl or a boy.... etc etc wink

But at the end of the day, it's all subjective isn't it? I think what Mark's saying is that 2day, it doesnt stand up like it did in '88 - and that's true. If u were there, and experienced the whole thang as and when it happened, that won't be the case, but I think it'd be damned near impossible 2 'get' Lovesexy if ur picking it up now as a newly converted fan of Da Man - Lovesexy (probably - no, definately) unlike any other Prince record was supported, and affected by everything that was going on around it at the time - it was the look, the vibe, the tour, his attitude, the spirituality.

I made a post many months ago stating that ATWIAD, Lovesexy, and TRC were 2 me the most vital and important records of his career. That raised some interesting responses from people who got what I was saying, Ill see if I can dig up the link. The people who didnt get the context of the thread chimed in with 'SOTT is best - are u mad???' etc. SOTT is the most CLASSIC album of his career, as much as I love that album - 2 me...there's a difference.

It's cool. You're allowed to have your opinion. Stick to your guns. I absolutely love LoveSexy. It's my number 1 Prince album. A lot of people don't like New Power Soul, but I think it's an excellent album. Don't let others change your mind.

Glam Slam is the only track I don't really care for and the production is a little dense in places, ie: eye No, Lovesexy; but other than those minor complaints I think it's a fine album. And the last one before the rot started to seep in.

NANA I completely agree with you....probably one of the best times of my life was during this period... I was 18...knew everything, tried everything...(not "everything")

The whole period was just.....(no words) I really pity the fans who weren't around during this time and are just NOW discovering it...

I don't have the adjectives either....
