Having seen the ONA tour live and the Musicology tour (premiere, going to DC Aug 14, plus the art of musicology special), I like the acoustic guitar set , but to me it pales in comparison to the piano medley. Seemed the piano medley had more spontaneity to it, and just would have been a better fit on this grander scale. Not to mention the acoustic set is way shorter!!

I was thinking about this the other day; Prince does play the acoustic guitar well, but I think his guitar playing live should be left to his electric.

He can not seem to generate the same energy out of an acoustic as he can with the piano.

The piano set is much better, under a spot light, he seems to get the crowd drawn in so well.

To emphasise this which album is better ONA (piano) or The truth?

I would definatley say ONA as I consider The truth appalling (that last but is gonna get me in trouble).

I disagree, because I personally I hate hearing those cheesy midi synthesized strings that he uses when he plays the piano. Listen to the piano medley on ONA Live and you'll hear what I'm talking about. Yes, he does play the piano well.

I much prefer the acoustic guitar set, I think it's more fun. And besides, no one really gets a sense of how great a guitar player he is until he plays his acoustic, all by himself. He can really move fast on the strings.

As far as albums go though, I prefer ONA over The Truth.

I'm glad that he's playing the hollowbody more frequently now. I just hope that he adds more songs to this set. The reworkings of classic songs are great. I wish he would use a 12-string on a couple of uptempo songs...

At THIS time, gotta say I'm feelin' the acoustic guitar set more. We've all heard the piano medley on various tours back to Lovesexy so it's a nice change. Personally, I'd prefer he do a small set of both...now THAT would truly put school in session. OR perhaps P could do a solo tour with an hour of acoustic guitar and an hour of piano (kinda like Ani DiFranco's solo acoustic guitar concert tour). But, then I'd miss the great musicians in the NPG.

I enjoyed the acoustic set more.
