Do you think Prince would ever give a free concert??? Like in Central Park like DMB, Simon and Garfunkel??? Paisley Park and after shows concerts don't count.

Its possible, but then you would wind up paying for the Musicology cd instead of getting a copy for free.

That would be nice if he did; if I were him I'd make it a tradition to give a free concert on his birthday!!

I saw a free Prince concert when he played the Today show w/ Larry and Chaka...they kept on going after the TV broadcast was over and played for about an hour. Does that count?

I know for a fact that Prince has given entire concerts for free for handicapped children back in the purple rain days. Two girls I used to know with musculer dystrophy attended a "secret" concert during the afternoon at an auditorium during prince's stay in houston (when he performed 6 times in a row at the summit stadium). I even have an article written about it in the houston paper way after the fact in '94.

Prince chose not to publicize this concert. an interesting fact is that many of the kids were deaf, and teachers were signing the lyrics to them. NO KIDDING. Prince probably cut the more risque songs from the setlist.

Ppl, ppl.... our little friend doesn't celibrate his b-day rolleyes

Yall know what would make him happy?

You don't? eek

Celibrate his wedding anniversary nod that's the most important day for a JW I have been told.... rose

And as far as giving a free concert...JW doesn't say anything abt not being commercial lol

So my answer to that would be : NO hmph!....forget it.... I don't think he would ever do that unless it's for a good cause biggrin

The Central Park concerts are not charity. They are filmed with the intent to be sold on DVD.
These folks make their living by performing and selling product, same with Prince. Can't blame them for that.

Didn't he play for free round the same time in Grant Park. I remember something like that...but you couldn't get in...it was "sold out" meaning no more standing room even. I recall standing behind the fence and nothing really special going on...just chaka and her hair!

Prince performed for free at an outdoor concert about 5 years
ago at the Mill City Music Festival in Minneapolis.
I'm not sure if he got paid in some way for it but it was free
for everybody in attendence. It was crazy busy down there.

Prince was paid for Mill City - in advance. He's not so dumb all the time, 'cause most of the performers got stiffed for their checks and had to sue. Mill City promoters were supposed to make money from concessions and shirts but supposedly didn't make enough.

It was a damn good show. He played Prettyman and other better Rave songs.

There was a charge to get into Mill City! I think it was kind of high too because I had to pay 2 times and we had a little trouble coming up with enough for the 2nd time. So it wasnt actually free.
I loved that concert though!

That New Years 1988 with Miles Davis was a charity concert...hence..free. Thats about it, a free show just for US...doubt it.

He's given concerts where the proceeds are given away...

He did one for his bodyguard's family and also one for
a fan in Boston who was hit by a car and killed while waiting
in line for a concert ticket.

I'm sure there were plenty others too...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
