Anxiety

Ahhhh, the SNL "Electric Chair" performance...how smooth was that? I know this thread is dedicated to the WORST TV performances, but I just had to respond to the person who listed that performance among the best.

As for the worst, I'd have to say that his performance of "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" on the '94? '95? World Music Awards could be a contender. He looked washed-out and miserable, and the performance was simply going through the motions - phoned-in.

But it was worth it to see the look of absolute horror in his face when Jordy, the five-year-old french rapper, took to the stage. Oh, lord...

Prince on the Orielly Factor would be tops! My 2 favorite personalities on the same show! agree?
Larry sucks, it was all his fault
No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ prince. He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take prince away from us, corporate. I mean O ( + >

Hate to burst the bubble here on a very interesting thread, but the '98 performances/interviews on both the Tonight Show and Vibe were OFF THA HOOK!! big grin

It helped that the Tonight Show performance went for what seemed like another 10 minutes after the cameras stopped rolling. FREAKS ON THIS SIDE chant was in the mix! It was also cool to see Prince and Mayte dance side by side during Everyday People after Vibe taping stopped. They were doing the "slide," and having a great time.

Of course, only the sexy people were able to get in and see it all LIVE. cool

I will totally agree with the Rosie O'Donnell crap though. She was an absolute idiot that day. If it had been Tom Cruise or Barbra Streisand, she would have been sobbing uncontrollably and kissing their @$$ like always....

I'm sure it has been dissected and discussed enough times before, but the RAVE PPV was lame during Lenny's performance with the camera changing angles every freakin second!! The Morris Day stunt double was kinda weak too. rolleyes

It could be true that Prince likes to do different and unexpected songs on TV as a way to showcase material that might otherwise not get the exposure to a certain audience on a given night.

Peace, and see you all in JUNE!

what are y'all smokin?!?!

prince's turn on the oprah show was one of his all-time best tv gigs EVER!

yeah, it was a bit obvious that he was stretching truths here and there but it truly was the greatest romance ever sold... the parts when oprah got him to touch on his youth, his father, and people over the years thinking him strange or gay were riveting... besides, both performances for that show ("if i was your girlfriend" "sleep around") were OFF THE HOOK!

that airing goes in the all-time best fools!

alond with...

1985 grammys "purple rain"
1987 mtv awards "sign o..." / "play in the sunshine"
1989 saturday night live "electric chair"
1991 mtv awards "gett off"
1996? vh1 honors "interactive" "endorphinmachine"

the worst???

brit awards "emancipation" lip-sync and worst gear to date.

FYI
In 1985 Purple Rain was performed on the American Music Awards.
Baby I'm a Star was performed at the Grammys

BTW
Totally agree that the Lip-synced Emancipation was pretty bad.

Lordee, I remember that Brit awards performance well! When he sauntered up to the stage in his golden ensemble with slave written on his face, waited for silence, tilted his head on the side and said:"Best? The Golden Experience: Better, On Record...In Concert:perfectly free..blah, blah, blah". I thought it was cool and hilarious. My brother can't stand Prince and to this day he still tilts his head to one side and with a mock American accent says: "BEST?"

wasn't the funniest the time he was on dick clarke dressed in high heel boots and underwear around '79/'80 when he just replied to questions with nods and hand signals. that was hilarious.
