Maybe he could do a guitar solo for her or something, but I just can't see her singing on one of his albums - her vocals would be too difficult for him to mix down.

No,No,No,No,No,No,No, way. I have alot of respect for what she has overcome in her life, but I don't see her as taking it to the next level musically or vocally. All though, maybe he might be enough to help her take it to the next level.

Thumbs down!
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Neither can I and I have never heard Prince say he likes Mary J or vica versa. When Ellen mentioned that he was at an event with Mary J. He just shook his head yes, he didn't comment about how a talent she was or nothin and I have never heard Mary say she admires Prince, but she's still gonna have the gall to borrow from him. I'm talking about that song where she samples "I Hate U".

No I don't think they should pair.

You'd rather have him hooking up with bland ass Maddy and Miss Alicia Keys(who's a louzy rip-off of Mary J if you paid attention) but you don't want him to hook up with Mary just cuz she slides off-key sometimes and doesn't have quite a range DISMISSING the fact that she has color and alot of depth in her voice enough to deliever.

NO.
I think Prince should rather work with some really interesting avantgarde or rock musicians instead of R&B/Soul-Chicks like Mary J. Blige and the like.
He has overdone that in my opinion and should try out something new.

whats up w/ all the mary haters???

She may not be the most skilled vocalist....but she has stood the test of time. The hip-hop QUEEN of soul.

Sting did a beautiful duet w/ mrs blige which was outstanding. I think this would open the door 2 a prince & mary duet.

I'd rather hear mary and prince 2getha then beyonce and prince!!! wink

I would love for Prince and Mary to do something together! At one of the Hawaii shows last winter, he played "Oooh" from her latest. RAD sang, which sorta sucked, but it was cool to hear the band do the song.

It'd definitely be interesting. Mary only had a handfull of songs that impressed me over the course of her career. I think the appropiate producers give Mary's voice her justice. It would definitely be interesting...

I love Mary J. Blige, been a fan since 411, but what could they do together, other than an over-worked ballad or an embarrassing urban/R&B try-hard chart single?

Can't say I'm the biggest MJB fan, but "My life" is a dope album. And I don't believe all Prince fans here, putting her down, heard that album. And I love how she did "sweet thing" As far as them working together....I would love to see them doing a ballad.

[flame snipped -tom] First of all I have not read that comment you are talking about in Black Beat and just because if Prince did say that Mary speaks the truth that don't mean he loves her singing voice and that concert that you are talking about, I still have that on tape and that was just a song Mary and Rod was singing, it wasn't no tribute to Prince. If was a all-star event and that was the song that was picked and if I say that the two don't go together, then they don't and yes I like Alicia Keys, I don't care what nobday say about her and her voice and if Mary was so great how come he didn't choose her to induct him into the RRHOF. Alicia is going about her business regardless of what you naysayers say.

When will people realize that Mary is one of the worst singers out there?!! People constantly make excuses for her... "She sing off key, but she's had a hard life." Some of the best singers come from angst and pain! She's one of the so-called artist who always rips off and samples other people' music, like "Sweet thing and "My life"! She relies on her background singers and catchy hooks to compensate for her poor vocals! And I'll have a hard time forgiving Sting for besmirching his cd!
