James Brown Mic. Stand Kick.

Who did James Brown borrow the microphone stand kick from and does he use it often in concert?

i'm not sure that JB borrowed it from anyone, but i think prince really "perfected" the move around the time of the SOTT tour...i haven't seen him bust a good mic stand move in quite a while.

The rumor use to be that JB stole from Joe Tex or Solomon Burke.

He "stole" the mic thing from Joe Tex and the cape thing from Solomon Burke.

It's all in Sweet Soul Music -- excellent book. There's a very good anecdote (tale?) from Burke about getting invited to "sing" on stage with JB, but all Brown wanted was for Burke to surrender is royal look to him.

nod nod thumbs up! ..although I always forget the author's first name. I know the last name is Garaulnik. David? Peter? I also read Last Train To Memphis, one of two Garaulnik Elvis books. Like SSM, it was an entertaining, detailed and informative read. I heard his other books are also wonderful. Good call, Aerogram.
