While My Guitar ... Free download

For those of you who haven't seen it yet: the entire While My Guitar Gently Weeps live video is available for download in George Harrison's website:

www.georgeharrison.com

under the 'media' section !

It's quite impressive how, at the end, Prince throws his guitar in the air, and IT DOESN'T FALL BACK ! eek

This version is butchered... the end of the song, Prince's guitar is cut, and replaced with some shit-ass guitar... I'm in a rage right now.

They changed the guitar ? Really ?

Well, this is the only version I heard + I listened to it only once. I had the impression indeed that at the end I couldn't hear Prince, and that the long 'whine' at the end had nothing to do with the way his hands were moving. But I blamed this on me listening on a cheap crap computer, thinking that Prince's solo must be hidden deeper in the mix. In fact, I find the whole sound of the song too full and bombastic --- there's hardly any space for Prince's solo. Probbaly Jeff Lynne at work here.

How do I get hold of the 'real' version ?

That's when Prince was playing this beautiful two note pull-off right at the end. This is an atrocity, but there's no way to contact the Harrison site.

The guitar they overdubbed really sucks compared 2 Prince.

Maybe Prince refused to have it released with his beautiful solo

4 those who missed the solo and wanted to see it Mr. despues was kind enough to post a

link a while back to download it. All you need is quicktime. It looks a little dark but it is

the acutal performance though.

If it's a crap mix, then why can U hear a solo that really wasn't there in place of Prince's? If it's a crap mix, then why can't U hear Prince's solo at all at the end? That sounds like a muted track 2 me, with an overdub.

This was obviously done intentionally... call me a conspiracy theorist if U'd like...

Prince's guitar is just not loud enough in the mix, you can't even hear his solo on this with that annoying piano blaring over it (which you can't hear on the TV broadcast just like the other guitar) and I highly doubt they added that and the other solo later cos they're both irritating to listen to and rather out of tune (and I think everyone on that stage there would agree...)
I just think it's a really poor mix they got from whoever recorded it that day...

Okay, so I watched it again and that dude who plays those horrible solo's inbetween seems to be playing something at the end of the song (which you don't hear in the broadcast version of it but is obviously the crap you hear in this mix... So he did play it then...)
So I guess this is just an "unmastered mix" of the performance with just everything and everyone equally loud in the mix...

Did anyone catch that P quote in the Rolling Stone with him on the cover about the fact that he had NEVER heard "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" before until they were in rehearsals for the RRHOF? That's very hard to believe....but I don't know why he'd lie about it!

I wouldn't say that in public if it was true... go get yourself some Beatles LPs and catch up.

Like I said: by choice...
I'm glad my folks openend me up to some of the most amazing music they used to listen to when I was a kid, but The Beatles is the only stuff they love that I can't listen to, I don't hear anything special in their music they just bore me to hell...
I just don't get what people hear in their stuff, it just doesn't connect with me... IMHO they're just an overrated boyband (I know not really fair since they actually can play an instrument, but still...)
That "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a boring song, if Prince wasn't doing a solo on that RRHoF performance of it, it would have put me to sleep...
The moment Prince does the solo it gets interesting and it takes off...

I guess cuz I was never into The Beatles or George Harrison's solo work, but I just knew that song - can't tell you all the places I had heard it, but I've just always known it. Kinda like Clapton's "Layla" or Billy Joel's "Piano Man".....everyone knows those songs for no damn good reason, they just do! "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is one of those songs, and Prince saying he had never heard it before, being the consumate musician that he is, was shocking to me eek

I never liked Clapton but that "Layla" song is indeed one of those songs everybody knows...
Don't know "Piano Man", but that's mainly cos Billy Joel makes my asshole cringe...
