What does Prince have against Australians?

From the lyrics to "Judas Smile"...

"Ahh Mr. Aussieman what makes ya think I'll work 4 U?
Paying 15 cents on the dollar
Those are the wages of a fool, nigga
Pinocchio mentality on levels more than 9
From now on the only piece U'll ever get from me's my mind."

I've never met an Australian, but I'd love to! Well, MrSquiggle and MamaLisa, I guess I just did! Hi! wave

If Prince hated Aussies, I'd find it difficult to be such a fan... I personally love Australia and the people who live there, or what I know of them anyway. Loud and obnoxious, no. I refuse to believe an entire continent can be classified as loud and obnoxious and disliked for it. Besides, the accent is sexy; and living in the outback, oh I wish I could! I've spent most of my young life dreaming that I'd move there when I grew up. Unfortunately immigration laws have kept me trapped in America, but as soon as I start makin' some money I'll at least be vacationing there A LOT! lol

Talking about immigration laws: what about the hundreds of illegal immigrants and asylum- seekers, including minors, which are kept in detention centers all across Australia?

This wasn't supposed to be an Anti-Aussie thread! lol Why am I laughing? I'm Australian.

To be honest, I knew before posting it that I'd probably misheard the lyric.

I grew up (pardon cliche) in Australia. Prince is, sensitive to racism, and well, as much as I don't like saying this, Australia is THE MOST RACIST country in the world. Colombo Plan? My favorite evidence of this assertion is, a black conductor, I think his name was something Dixon, was appointed guest conductor of an orchestra, might have been the Sydney Symphony I think. Now classical music is the heart of bourgeois culture, many of whose population have 'influence'. Well, what happened is, Mr Dixon was refused entry to Australia at the airport and had to return to the USA. It was for no other reason than he was black. Fortunately, I did get to hear him conduct some years later, and remember the freshness of his approach to Prokoviev. For all you Aussies out there, you'll know what I mean. I don't play the game of slagging of countries normally, and that is not my intention now. Adelaide used to not be joined up with Elizabeth, and there was an aboriginal resettlement program by the road. It was inhumane, for them, for me, for everyone, very very shocking and my first direct experience of racism (I'm white). Oz was really amazingly rascist. Has it changed? I'm going to Oz in December, so may be I'll see a difference. Reluctantly I have to admit that the last time I was there was 1973. Now I'm giving my age away, damn.

No I don't live in Australia as I made only too clear in my post, bet you one of those guys that call pommies pommies and make it sound really insulting. Check out your own national newspaper http://www.theaustralian....07,00.html

OK that's a 2002 article... I'm now going to prove my point man. More googling on this. If you don't recognise the atrocious racism in your country and worldwide then, hey, what can I say? It's nothing more than the truth we're after here. You can say more... provide evidence not some emotional half baked reaction... I'm interested in this... tell me more...

By the way, what's the point of 'quoting' my post? When it's sequenced prior to yours anyway. Oh boy!

NAMASTE!

Hey, a google on 'most rascist country' - the USA! http://www.oxfordstudent....features/1

...but then what about http://www2b.abc.net.au/n...ic422.shtm

... but now I'm feeling really sick... 'the most' is nothing worth measuring.

I'm giving up on this now... I've read too much that is depressing and it's time to go to bed.

So, excuse me, but I'm trying to answer your question... maybe Prince just ain't on about racism at all. So, hey, why do you ask. It upset you? Perhaps he just liked the name Mr Aussieman for the song. Sheiks....

woah aren't you just the most idiotic orger ever? What's you point about quoting? Ah, yes, why bother? Tell me why the button is there and why the whole org quotes other peoples' posts and you'll have your answer.

You obviously know FUCK ALL about Australia. The UK has far more racism concerning Indian immigrants than Australia has to Asians entering our fair land...and apart from our horrible history with Aborigines, you'd be hard pressed to find a fairer, less-racist country. Like someone else said, look to the US. EVERY AUSTRALIAN knows that in the 60s and 70s Australia was a different, sometimes racist and un-PC country. But that was THEN! We are the SECOND MOST MULTICULTURAL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD (per capita)! Why do you think we had an Aboriginal woman lighting the torch at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney? Because we don't waste time with racism and accept all into our nation...I'm not being idealistic. This is the Australia of 2004. I think you're in for a BIG SHOCK when you come to Australia again, buddy. We've changed and we're changing and becoming a better nation all the time. No other nation does as well, considering our small population.

Don't even bother replying to this...you're insulting and you're obviously someone who is very ill-informed.

Reading between the lines, as I have to with your posts because you have a way with language that is, shall we say is - brusque, and sorry mate, insulting too, no matter, it's the way you communicate right? I'm glad to hear things have improved, but watch out for complacency... there is a distinct difference between our approaches on this matter. I'm not waving the flag for anyone, do you really sign up to the nationalism you expound? I have made an assertion that Oz is THE MOST RASCIST country in the world. Planely, that was based on my experience of over 30 years ago and the whole world has become cleverer at disguising these matters. It's a broad generalised statement anyway, these things are like statistics, we bend them to suit our own feelings on things, support our own attidues and ambitions. My assertion is based on my emotional reaction to what I personally witnessed 30 years ago and had supported subsequently by my family who live now in Oz, some of whom were born there too, and are Australians like you. They portray another picture of Australia, and yes, the UK is rascist too. Don't get angry, just think about another persons point of view, for as long as you can, reflect, think, look at the evidence not the propaganda. I am only too willing to accept a difference, can you? Take it easy. It's a discussion right. Added to which this is a friendly place. The .org I mean. Do you have many none white friends? I consider that as some kind of measure.

I keep finding evidence: see here http://www.pastornet.net....es/662.htm
and http://ideas.repec.org/p/...er/41.html
and http://library.trinity.wa...racism.htm a resource to explore?
admittedly 1997 but: http://www.anu.edu.au/cab...acism.html

Racism in Australia

Volume 180, Issues in Society

Although Australians generally pride themselves on living in a tolerant, multicultural country, racial tensions are often never far from the surface. This book explores racial discrimination and the law in Australia; ways of moving beyond racial tolerance to understanding; community attitudes to immigrants and asylum seekers; the media's representation of particular ethnic groups; and recognising and eradicating racism in schools.

Australia Rejects Racism UN Report http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/h...690213.stm

Institutional racism in Australian healthcare: a plea for decency from http://www.mja.com.au/pub...12_fm.html

Now if racism was an Olympic event, we'd win it hands down! http://www.livinginaustra...00076.html

When Australian Olympic long-jumper, Jai Taurima challenged his black competitors' ability to compete under Australia's cool-weather conditions, the dung hit the fan. http://racerelations.abou...91900a.htm

The 'evidence' above doesn't support your assertion.

Hope you check out those links, really. smile

May I interrupt all of this bickering? How did this thread go from a funny reply to a typo to the blistering lashings about a country's level of racism? Put your brakes on people and gather yourselves. Every country that begins with and ends with an alphabet has racism, bigotry, sexism and all brutal, hateful legacies that will supply history with infinate paragraphs. Take your debates to another forum or classroom, and keep this forum focused on its subject. You have all done such in depth research on your points that it is a wonder you haven't slugged your head with a bullet. Please!!
