Emancipation - The singles that weren't...

I know it was 8 years ago, but didn't Prince miss a great oppurtunity to put out better singls from Emancipation. With all the press he was giving at that time. What 3 singles would you've released if you could??

For me..

Definitely. This is a well-discussed topic around here.

I would say these tracks would have been best as singles:

Sleep Around
In This Bed Eye Scream (edited)
Joint 2 Joint (edited)
Right Back Here In My Arms

I agree with you completely! I know some folks think Emancipation is too slick and overproduced but I love it. Obviously it would have been smarter(commercially speaking, of course) if Prince had released a single disc. Three hours of music is too much for all but the die-hard fans. Hmm, singles?

Well I definitely think "Sex In The Summer", in an edited form, would have been a top ten pop hit.

"Saviour" had hit potential.

"Sleep Around" and "Style" could have been hits.

I absolutely love the Livestudio mix of "Somebody's Somebody".

I'm sure that I'm forgetting something. Too many songs to remember!

Face Down was a single, though radio promo only.

18 singles? OK I am always up for a challenge. But I am going to incorporate songs that actually were singles too.

I think I'll pick 6 from each disc.

These are in the order in which they appear on the album:

Jam Of The Year (edit)
Somebody's Somebody (Livestudio Mix)
Courtin' Time
We Gets Up (edit)
White Mansion
In This Bed I Scream (edit)
Sex In The Summer (edit)
Joint 2 Joint (edit)
The Holy River
Let's Have A Baby (edit)
Saviour (edit)
Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife (edit)
Face Down
Style (edit)
Sleep Around (edit)
My Computer (edit)
The Love We Make
Emancipation (are there any good live versions of this? If so I'd substitute a live take for the studio version)

At 1 single every two months that would have kept Prince promoting Emancipation for 3 years!

18 singles - pure fantasy, I think Prince was just leveling out the 5/6 singles per CD of a very successful album.

Think about Janet and Michael's greatest albums, they shat out singles, I think Prince just multiplied that by 3.

It's a pity EMI folded because I think Emancipation was a very commercial set of songs, despite it's length. Definately no worse than Musicology in terms of commercial viability.
