I used to work at a Pier 1 Imports. They sell those puppets during the holidays. I used to crack up my co-worker and customers with the puppet scene in "Purple Rain" all the time. | |

It was pretty bonkers. I reckon it just came about as a device to conceal Prince's identity - Mayte used to wear it to fool the audience into thinking she was Prince, then she would wip it off and Prince would come on stage elsewhere. But that only worked if everybody associated the hat with Prince, so he had to be seen wearing it quite often. | |
