New Power Soul CD...WTF? I just got this recently. OK, is it just my copy, or is this thing set up a little oddly? First, the track listing on the back of the CD case is messed up. The listing omits the number 6, so tracks 6 thru 10 on the CD are listed as 7 thru 11.
Then it gets really weird: tracks 11 thru 47 are 4 seconds each of silence. Track 48 (!) is 42 seconds of silence. Then there's a hidden track (49) which is a song ("Why did I waste my kisses...," Prince sings). Does anyone have any insight as to why this CD is set up like this? Just Prince goofing around? "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

Never mind THAT, what do you think of the MUSIC? There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Maybe that's why it only cost $1 (from overstock.com)?! Wow, think I could pass it off as a collector's item?! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. I think I remember Neversin or Borisfishpaw talking about some misprints - u would need 2 chase them up I reckon.
The last track is a 'hidden' track called 'Wasted Kisses'

Dang, I just KNEW I'd get in trouble for not commenting on that aspect of the album! I've only listened to it twice, I thought some of the tracks were kinda cool, but I doubt it will become one of my fave Prince albums. Best I can do for now. My copy is exactly the same way, "misprints" and all.

I believe the misprint track list on the back of the CD features on the NPG Records version (i.e. manufactured and distributed) printed in the USA.
The 'version' (exactly the same musical content) - also on NPG records - made in the EU and released in the UK (bearing no 74321 60598 2 - back of lyric booklet and top right hand corner of CD back cover) distributed by BMG bears the correct tracklisting in terms of numbering. Both have the hidden track 'Wasted Kisses' as indicated in the lyric booklet on the page for '(Eye Like) Funky Music'. . . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

my copy has the screwy misprint issue, too. all the blank tracks at the end are on purpose, though.

Never paid attention to my copy...I keep my CDs in a binder without the case that's why...I do like the CD though... "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

As far as I know, the original run of US Newpower Soul CDs all had the 'printing error' mentioned.
Subsequent pressings (and all copies from other countries) were printed correctly. I'm pretty sure that there were too many made with the error to make it 'collectable', and the CD itself is tracked correctly.

the printing error for the tracklist is because "The Good Life (Big City remix)" was originally part of the album. whether it was the 1995 version or an updated version, i don't know, but when the original tracklist came out before the album was released, it was in the lineup. it's also why he mentions it in the rap on the title track, as he does all of the song titles.
Wasted Kisses is the "hidden bonus track" .... and at the time, Prince really had a thing for getting his discs to time out to exactly 60 or 49 or 70 minutes and whatnot. hence all that wasted space and editing and bizarre inclusions (15 minutes of Cloreen Baconskin but an edited Crucial, anyone?) for Crystal Ball (49:49 for each disc) "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

while i'm at it, the inclusion of the Good Life remix (plus Funk Radio and S&M Groove) sure would have raised this album up to at least HALF the tracks being decent, and not just the 3 or 4 on the existing version. "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

which would make sense because part of the rap on the back with the track titles is "The Good Life, yeah we'll be livin..."

Then there's a hidden track (49) which is a song ("Why did I waste my kisses...," Prince sings).
Didn't know that until this thread...Thanks!

It's really some cryptic, numerology thing. the man is way into numbers and their meanings. There's no track listing of 6 for reason. The's a reason numeroligically speaking to the "emancipation" 3 cd set all 60 minutes each get it? "360", what's another name for a 360 degree turn? A Revolution...get it? Emancipation= Revolution , it all ties in.It's all divinci code type stuff.

I would love to hear the whole song. I'm going to have to be on the lookout for it. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.
