My depression and "A Place In Heaven"

I've had this song in my collection for years but always passed it by. The first few times I did listen to it I thought of it as nothing more than an "enviormental record". The other night I put it on and listened to words.

Now I've never been a saint, but I do consider myself a pretty spiritual person. This song made me re-look the depression and stress that I put on my self. The whole part about "she lives on a rope of self-pity, it only requires a noose..." Thats not the way I want to be.

"Why are the ones so afraid 2 live, much more afraid 2 die?" That's me again. I haven't been "alive".

All this time I had been feeling sorry for myself, looking for someone to feel sorry for me. "Life's what U make it, stop whining baby, love comes 2 those who care..." This made me realize that I need to let go of that rope of self-pity and take control of my life. But I still always leaned on others to get me through and never let myself take charge to get to where I want to be.

"Let's not be lazy, there's no room service, It's all up 2 me and U..." There's no room service. Its useless for me to wait on others to clean up my messes and put things in there right place. If life is what you make it, then I've put myself through hell and I can't keep sitting around waiting around for someone to change it. I have to make that change.

Thank you for taking time to listen to my rambling, but just incase there was anyone else out there going through the same thing, I hope that maybe this can help.

I'm glad you found some type of solace in this song. Isn't the power of music great? clapping

Just like George says, "Funk not only moves, it removes" (even though "APIH" is not a funky jam, but you catch my drift). lol

Good fortune to you, Raijuan! There's nothing like self-empowerment.

I don't have this song, but the lyrics sound profound, so i'm going to go look for it.

Wow, I have this song but like you I didn't pay attention to the words. I need to listen to that too. Thanks so much for sharing and I'm glad that the song has helped you. As a result of that, you've helped me a little bit too. Thanks smile .
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Great story. smile I like this song too..though mostly when P sings it.

I too was recently depressed and Prince's music was practically the only thing that got me through some stressful times as of late. I hadn't realized this until I was playing Reflection (over and over) a few weeks back (probably at the head of the depression/stress time) and I broke down realizing that not only was I listening to Prince almost exclusively/all the time (I usually don't get like that) but also realized that it was at those moments I forgot all the crap in my life and was trying to focus on the positive....thus causing me to listen to him all of the time. It was more of a "thank you for giving me music as solace in my life"/reducing my stress cry than anything else.
