AMERICAN IDOL TRIBUTE TO PRINCE im watching TRL (dont ask me why) and Dianna DeGarmo, the runner up from American Idol was talking about the upcoming tour featuring the top 10 performers...
and she said that they will be doing a tribute 2 Prince. weird, but cool, i guess. | |

I cant believe that they would have barry manilo... elton john... gloria estefan and no prince.... he is probably to up himself to do something like that anyway. i can see every comment now "well its wasnt as good as me but... its okay"    Music is the power.

Since he was quoted in the EW mag interview not liking others to cover his songs, wouldn't he put a stop to this travesty if it were to happen? Or maybe he would let it pass so as not to be perceived as an ass for blocking it. Anywhoo, I wouldn't want to hear these gumdrop AI slaves ruin Prince songs any way      Jeux Sans Frontiers | |

I read someplace that you only have to ask permission to cover a song if you change the arrangement or lyrics.
So long as you stick to what is basically little more than a karaoke copy, you don't need to ask permission. I think the reasoning is that an alternate arrangement could earn you a songwriting credit. | |

why? he was running his own version of American Idol for years. the auditions just weren't on TV. they were in his bedroom

Though it's a lovely sweet thought, The image of a bunch tv idol people doing cheesey dance numbers and singing "when doves cry" and "little red corvette" gives me kind of a sick feeling. | |
