Prince and country music?

Would any of y'all like to hear Prince try authentic country music, or possibly folk music? I am serious. I know that the results could be horrific, but I would love to hear Prince try a genre of music not associated with him.

on several occasions over the years, he's threatened to put out a country music record...sometimes in concert he'll break into some yee-haw sounding riff and say "i like country music too!" - so i guess the possibility isn't as far off as you might think. eek

I don't know if a whole album would be a good idea. Too many fans would freak out! Maybe if he ever puts out another double album he could sneak one in.

I like country music. You might say it's one of my favourite art-forms...but Prince's take on the genre is something I could do without.

Question

Love 2 hear him do country music.

He can handle it easy. yes

MarcelS

He can handle it for sure.
It's not that farfetched either, countrymusic is in the root of many streams.
The other way around I did see once, I have seen John Hiatt play Purple Rain
in a country way, it wasn't all that different.

Marcel.

Wow! I thought I'd be chased outta here for that suggestion! It's not exactly country but I love Prince's acoustic take of Alphabet St. Blues. I guess I'd like to see an acoustic album. I know he did that with the Truth but it was cluttered with lots of synths and sound affects. I'd like to hear prominent acoustic guitar with a minimum of percussion. That's country music, right? Kind of like Merle Haggard in the sixties.

Sounds like the perfect reason to do it. I like it when he pisses off the fans who moan and complain all the time.

C'mon. Every genre of music has something to offer. Have you ever listened to older country music? It's basically just a white version of the blues. Do you dig blues music? I assume from your name that you are a fan of P-Funk. Do you like the track "Little Old Country Boy" from Parliament's Osmium? That's pretty much straight country music.

ur right, every genre of music has something to offer, but imo country music has the least ...
i would not call Little Ole Country Boy a typical country song anyway wink

Hell no!

I can't stand country music. I wish he would do away with the accostical set at his concerts. But, as much as I hate country music, they do at least sing and play instruments...that's more than I can say about hip hop.

To be "Vavoom" sounds like country music. In fact, I could hear it being played on the Country Music Video channel.

kinda makes you wonder what would have happen if he were sucked into the vortex of charley pride instead of larry graham, doesn't it?

and to the person who said "country sucks", i agreed with that sentiment for most of my life...then i listened to the rick rubin-produced johnny cash albums, and dug into JC's classic records. THE MAN IS AMAZING. then i checked out some old tammy wynette albums, and they're just phenomenal as well. and loretta lynn's new album is a masterpiece.

country music is just like any other genre - there's good stuff and bad stuff. if i based entire genres on artists i didn't like, i'd have to say i hate pop and r&b music. not true, though...i just hate music in those genres that i think is crap.

Neil Young is one of my favorite artists he's a mixed bag really though his folk/acoustic stuff is my favorite I could listen to it all day. I wouldnt object to Prince doing country/folk with a beat up guitar and harmonica.

Then he'd sound like Beck.

I've always thought Prince would sound like Beck if he blended some country/folk in to his funk the way Beck blended some funk into his country/folk.

two things:

1. I would really like to hear what it would sound like. I think Country music is THE genre to really appreciate accoustic guitar and seeing as prince is the greatest guitar-player of the last two decades i think there's some potential in that idea

2. For those of you who are saying country music s*cks. If you're talking about recent country music i can understand. But try listening to nelsons 'blue eyes crying in the rain', 'crazy' or the VH1 storytellers cd with nelson and cash, try listening to Vince Gill, Waylon Jennings, chet atkins, patty loveless, Kris kristofferson (van you honestly tell me 'me and bobby mcGee' s*cks?). Listen to those and then in all honesty try to tell me that you don't like those gems...I DARE YA! smile
