What is your concept/interpreptation of "The Dawn"?

Do you think we have still 2 C the Dawn?

Or was The Dawn his emancipation from the man?

Was The Dawn his religious awakening 2 the JW's?

Have we seen The Dawn already, 'cause I'm on this site every day,
I mighta missed that one TV appearance, but you'de think I
would remember THE DAWN.

Prince freaks me out sometimes...

I checked ATWIAD and Parade...NADA!
But, mysteriously, it reappears on Graffiti Bridge...hmm
So, doesn't look like a movie project...it's deeper than that.

I just wanna know, because if it involves the end of
civilization, or something...

No, it's Spiritual Enlightenment like the earlier person said. Check the Credits on 3 Chains of Gold. There is another saying. A long one.

September 1986 - Immediately after the 1-month Parade tour, Prince begins a new film project, The Dawn. Planned as a musicial. The Dawn concerned 2 rival bands, 1 of them called the Coco Boys. Prince spent 3 days n September 1986 recording 2 songs that he had specifically for The Dawn in his home studio. "Crucial" & "Coco Boys" which was developed from an instrumental piece recorded during the Paris soundcheck on the Parade tour. He also cut a 3rd track for The Dawn called "When The Dawn Of The Morning Comes". Prince never saw The Dawn project through to its completion, although the scenario of 2 rival bands was incorporated into Graffiti Bridge a year later in 1987. The Dawn was still mentioned as a possible film in 1989, but it remains unfinished 2 this day. Like The Hard Life, but that's another story...

I started a similar thread a while ago. I have always thought it meant something to do with the second coming of Christ. There are many allusions to "the dawn" be it a failed movie, "welcome to the dawn" song, the dawning of a new spiritual revolution...etc.

It probably means to him many things...he could have included it in liner notes as foreshadowing of what was to come (which he would do often). I am sure it was meant to provoke, yet be something timeless and vague enough to be written as the last thing on the album notes

From PM 'til Dawn. "Thunder all through the night"--the morning light is the dawn. It normally rains when it thunders. Rain and sunshine produce a rainbow. "I got seven hours...what you gonna do?" It is about 7 hours 'twixt pm and dawn.

No, it's nothing negative like armagedden. It's signifies, like IceTen said, some sort of awakening or enlightening.

I remember being fascinated with this phrase since reading it on the Purple Rain record cover scrawlings. It's part of Prince's philosophical music Bible ... like code words uptown, new breed, paisley park, etc.

I don't believe we'll ever reach The Dawn, until we die and meet the force and Light on the other side. Like Nirvana.

No matter what Prince says , we have not reached The Dawn and no new breed has been reproduced yet. Those are all ideals we long for like the gold at the end of the rainbow.

Prince excellently foreshadows what the Dawn will feel like on The Truth , with the last song "Welcome to the Dawn."

If you haven't heard it, go listen. It is so beautiful it will make you want to cry. I can only hope the Dawn is worth of this amazing song tribute.

dawn is when the day begins. people usually wake up at dawn. dawn is when we awaken to see a new day. may we live to see a new day. but that is a metaphor. so what does it mean?

Prince is about Prince.

in Graffiti Bridge, Prince hoped May U live to see the Dawn, basically meaning hopefully we will al live to see his new day, his new artistic creations and spirituality.

Emancipation declares Welcome 2 the Dawn., thus we have seen his new awakening, artistically and professionally, and in hindsite, for better and for worse.

while it may have been rumored the Dawn was a proposed movie, this is obviously not the dawn he was refering to.

Is everyone forgetting that we were welcomed to the Dawn on the Gold Experience, and the Truth

Also, the symbol album says "May U Live 2 C the Dawn" in the background, and I'm pretty sure it's on many of his other albums, as I recollect.
