Is Musicology Just The Study Of Sounding Like James Brown?

Okay now, don't get me wrong, I'm lovin' all the stuff Prince is doing this year, but I gotta wonder....

...why name an album after the study of music when all yer doing is name checking like four bands from the past, and then going on tour lookin' like a JB tribute band? What's he teaching us, anyway?

What is it we're supposed to be learning? How to get on the good foot? How to dance like we got ants in our pants? How to get a brand new bag? Isn't James Brown still doing that on his own? Is Prince any different in JB's shadow right now than someone like Lenny Kravitz (and his Let Lovesexy Rule hairdo) is in Prince's shadow?

I'm just picking a nit. I love the tour, and I wouldn't change a thing (well, maybe that dingey lookin' album cover....) but I don't quite get the whole "putting the music before the ology" thing. All I learned is that Prince likes wearing polka dots again.

Oh, I love James Brown to death. Don't get me wrong. But he's not the whole of music. THAT'S the nit I'm picking.

No, that was just the music that inspired Prince. He feels that this is music that we should all be aware of and respect.
