DMSR or Possessed

Which biography of Prince is better?

I just completed Possessed, but heard that Dance Music Sex Romance is good also. What are the differences in the two (besides the authors)?

dmsr. it's more or less a study of p's work, while possessed deals more with scandal and p's personal dealings.

Thanks! thumbs up!

So a lot of what I read in Possessed isn't true? confuse

The one thing I was looking for in Possessed was his inspiration for tunes (which gave a pretty good account to an extent), but I was searching for more. Also, it seemed to focus a lot on Wendy and Lisa, but didn't go into how he actually found people like Cat, how Wally and Brooks left, Boni, etc. Does DMSR give an account of these?

most of it is based on 3rd-hand/unnamed sources, plus there's a lotta info in the book that's been lifted from other books that have been out already so there's really nothin new to be read in there.

Start with 'D.M.S.R.' and follow it up with 'THE VAULT', which hopefully will turn out to be a meaty read, if word of mouth is to be believed.

Sadly, nobody has yet come up with a Prince biography that works as a unified whole. Presenting the sensational aspect of his private life whilst also concentrating on the performance side of his career is surely not that complicated a task. The subject matter almost screams for this type of approach.

I almost feel like tacking the subject myself.

Thanks!

That's what I hated about Possessed was that it just pretty much left the reader in limbo as to how Boni, Cat, and Levi came along after the breakup of The Revolution.

I also remember reading when he hired Roise he told her "I hope you don't get like Boni" indicating some type of bad-blood between the two of them upon her departure. Enquiring minds need to know! lol

I liked them both -- I'm not as much into the anti-Possessed. I took it for what it was worth -- it was clear Hahn had an axe to grind and a point to prove. Knowing that, I took it all with a grain of salt. I thought there was a lot of good info to be gleaned from it.

THAT said, DMSR is world's better. Unbiased, well written, and very interesting.
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark

The book, Possessed is a little better than D.M.S.R because it does a great job of summarizing Prince career from 1958-2002. Prince: The First Decade is a good book too.
