Can you imagine... Prince still performing 25 years from now? I ask because James Brown is on tour and he is 71 years old. I would love to be able to take my grandchildren to see Prince, but I wonder if he will be up to touring at 71.

I would imagine it being something like this (from an old post of mine):
"In 2008, after buying a Vegas casino, he intends on playing a 3-hour hit-o-revue nightly for a select crowd of 1000 people. The first five years will feature his solo-efforts, the latter five will see him teaming up duetting new material with musical heavy-weights like Celine Dion and Tom Jones. " It somehow doesn't seem right to be playing in one's seventies, although there is many an example of genuine artists capable of challenging themselves and their audiences at that age.

Yeah, I wonder if James Brown is touring because of his love of music or because he needs the money. Money may be the motivating factor for some. If Prince is still touring 25 years from now, I hope it's not because he is having financial issues, but because of his passion for music.

If he does, I hope it will be because of his love for the art. That would be cool..

Am I the only one getting this slightly sad feeling, a realisation that Prince is getting on now?
He looks great for his age, but that aside, he isn't far from 50 year old, looking good or not. By the time he's 60 I hope he's still relevant and still has his finger on the pulse. He's shown signs already since turning 40 that sometimes he's not hip to current sounds (see fake horns on musicology, crap synth sounds in 2001 and 2002 downloads). I don't want his music to go the way of Stevie Wonder. Even when I listen to Stevie now, on pap pop like 'True To Yourself' with 98 Degrees, everything Stevie does is cool - his voice, his harmonica playing - but he's just not a hip cat anymore. Yet, get him on stage behind the clavinet jamming away on Superstition and u know he'd kill it. Let's hope Prince grows old gracefully musically. I can't see him stopping easily.
