Sony UK press release for new single PRINCE
NEW SINGLE "CINNAMON GIRL" RELEASE DATE: 26TH JULY 2004 It is hard to believe that it's been more than twenty-five years since For You, Prince's first album, was released. Not only because both the world and its musical landscape have altered so much in that quarter century, but because so many of those changes were anticipated and initiated by this multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer, songwriter, Oscar-winning composer, and multi-Grammy-winning artist. And those accolades are not likely to stop in 2004, which is already shaping up to be a monumental year for Prince who opened the 46th Annual Grammy ceremony with a stunning show-stopping duet with Beyoncé, and earned the ultimate pop music honor as an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2004. He's embarked on an historic and extensive World Tour (which kicked off March 29) and is participating in a number of major events surrounding the 20th anniversary of the release of his classic music film (and watershed album), Purple Rain. Prince released his latest album "Musicology" on 19th May and it went straight in the UK chart at #3, proving that Prince is still top of his league and that Prince power is still very strong. The debut single taken from "Musicology" is the thought provoking song about war entitled "Cinnamon Girl" released on the 26th July 2004. What the press have said about the "Musicology" Evening Standard: "Powerful reminders here of a time when Prince was King." The Times: "Musicology is a sleek, groove-rich experience." Daily Express: "Pop's most diminutive superstar males a glorious return... Fine stuff. ****" Daily Mail: "His most concise and accessible record in years. ****" Daily Mirror (The Ticket): "Musicology is a bouquet of riches. ***" Daily Telegraph: "A glorious, insane, sprawling piece of work, and huge fun with it." The Observer: "Musicology is a delight from funky start to contemplative finish" Sunday Mirror: "A reaffirming funk-filled gift of an album. ****" Independent On Sunday: "Musicology contains plenty of reminders why this man is considered by many to be the greatest musical genius of the pop era." Metro: "Musicology is a tight, hedonistic record"

Not necessarily.... it'll give the album a boost "How embarrasing to be human!"

Not MY first choice as single but, hey...
Now, Columbia, you've done an AMAZING job promoting this but - and here's the clincher - make sure there are B-SIDES!!!!

Or:
The Observer: "And 'Call My Name' isn't entirely bad. 'Cinnamon Girl' is, though: not only does it nick its verse-tune from 'When Doves Cry', but it adds Howard Jones' synth noises, plus - save us - anti-war lyrics that make George Michael seem like Chomsky." Sony must have missed that bit? . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Shit.
By the time that hits the stores, I'll have forgotten bout Musicology and be waiting fot the next album. "...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

26th July???.....amazon have it as released 28th June!
is this a replay of the musicology 'single' policy.....the announce a single, then keep pushing back until it doesn't get released at all policy infact I would quite like it if that does happen with cinnamon girl...I hate it as a single choice.

I don't like CG yet I find it sticks in my head
so maybe it has a chance as a single. What do I know? - I thought Diamonds & Pearls would go straight into the toilet & it was a hit single.

Me too D-meister! Ok, it's kinda quirky along the lines of Raspberry Beret in respect of not the kind of song u would imagine Prince 2 release - but that's EXACTLY what the public need over here now, something that will make their ears go - 'who's THAT!' I personally reckon that this would be killer if he played it live on tour.
